I like having them... I had a guy drive right into the side of me at CMP but the bars kept his bumper 4-5" from my hip..... much better than him denting my door in that far and hitting an X that is 1" from my hip....

Have you installed your seat? I had a hell of a time getting mine to fit with the bar on the floor..... i had a Sparco Rev which is fairly skinny.
Actually no, 2 crumple zones are WAY more efficient than 1. By having the space between the door and the x allows the stock impact bars to do thier job and slow the impact a lot before it even gets to the cage.

having stock impact bars, nascar and X with some space between each would be the safest. The X tho is really critical for chassis rigidity.

the main hoop (behind the seats) appears to be 1 bar to me.

seems like the chassis is pretty rigid stock, and even more so with a cage with the door bars..... how much more rigid is it with X? what is the benefit with all that rigity? seems like OR (over rigid.. ).

The anti-inrusion bars replace the stock side impact beams. The stock beams have been removed and each door weighs ~12lbs and is nothing but the exterior skin and latch. The AI beams extend into the empty space of the door to prevent intrusion in the event of side impact.

The inside upper part of the door in the picture was removed from the other door and should be removed from this one by now. The latch is operated by pulling of pressing on a plastic coated steel wire running from that latch to the hinge side of the door. Simply pushing the wire will open the door in case you need to get out quick.

This could be measured with strain guages and the like, but ...

Yes, the X will be a little bit more rigid than the NASCAR bars. But if you really want rigidity, you want a Petty bar. That will really be more efficient than anything where the X or NASCAR bars go.

On a weight basis, it is usually better to specialize than to try and get one element to do everything. So you could go with the NASCAR bars and the Petty bar probably for less weight and more rigidity than the X plus NASCAR bars.

Downside to Petty bar is the loss of the passenger area, but is that a concern here?

Also, like others i think it is more weight efficient (and possibly even more secure) to make use of the car's structure and bring the main hoop to the rear deck rather than the floor. Other people seem to find a way to anchor the side bars while doing that.

Petty bar? A diagonal running to the front hoop?

And yes thats what the plates are for. You mount the x to large plates. I'll take some pics some day.

This is becoming illegal in SCCA. Not that that is a concern to you.
