Thumbs up I Just Wanna Drive!

I just got my s2000 and coming from a 2.slow VW Jetta its a night and day difference.

Is there a track I can go drive around or a driving school around me (Alabama) so I can learn how to handle a RWD around a track??

And do you have any tips??

Road Atlanta with nasaproracing.com has the HPDE events for that. You can also check out Talladega Grand Prix Raceway in Anniston AL, there are a few local car clubs that will rent that track several times a year. As mentioned above Chin Motorsports has novice programs too, price is high but a good bang for your buck based on total minutes on track. There is a road course at the Nashville Super Speedway that you can go to through music city mustang club or autosportsevents.

^^ I always thought that NASA HPDE needs an aftermarket roll bar installed in an S2000. Can someone correct me on this?

It depends on what track you are running. Each track has it's own requirements. I know if you want to run Barber and VIR you need to have aftermarket roll protection.

Would I have to join a club that rents out tracks or do certain tracks just have a open track day??

Tony, I ran at homestead with NASA Florida region.. They accept the factory roll bars.

From their website: "A factory roll bar such as those found on a Honda S2000 may fulfill this requirement, but

NASA will require a $45 annual membership fee to run their HPDE program. They hold the High Performance Driving Events the same time as Wheel to Wheel Racing events, lots of action over the weekend. Most others do not have annual fees as they are open track events only. You will not get on Barber with a stock S2000 no matter who is holding the event there. Road Atlanta you can. Their are a lot of clubs that rent Road Atlanta and Talledega Grand Prix, you should try those first. What part of Alabama are you from?

I have no experience with a NASA event, yet (trying to make CMP in Nov.). While I don't know much about Chin, I can say that one of their instructors was also an instuctor at one of the Skip Barber schools that I attended and provided excellent feeback. Also, having done all of my racing schools at Road Atlanta, I can say that it is NOT the place to be learning a rwd high performance car like the S. Those concrete walls are very big and VERY close at speed, and I've seen them destroy three Mazdaspeed Miatas in one weekend. As a matter of fact, I'm skipping my first NASA event at Road Atlanta and going to CMP which is flatter and has more runoff room to learn my S before going back to Road Atlanta.

That's just my .02.
