I need a Track Day
Well, I've been trying to figure out where and how I can attend and participate in a track day. I don't want to go through cones, I actually want to go on a track and learn the limits of my car on the track. I don't actually own an S2000 yet, what I do own is a BB6 Prelude.
I know what I want is called an HPDE event, I was just wondering if you guys know what would be the easiest way to join in on the fun? I would love to go to one within a month if it were possible.

Well that was sure stupid of me. I live in Ft Lauderdale, FL. I'm right in between Homestead and Palm Beach raceways, and while I see their calendars are full of events, I can't seem to find one where I can just drive my car, pay a fee, and drive on the course.
there's this:

But that is for motorcycles. It's exactly what I was looking for. I don't mind being coached, but I'd rather find something where I can use the track to just have a little fun on it with my DD. I would love to do that at least once or twice a month, and while driving schools seem fun and all, that would get rather expensive.
I wish we had the Nurburgring here in Florida.

Very very very few places will just let you out on a race track without full instruction - and for good reason. Driving on track is a completely different animal than driving on the street. Learning from a certified instructor will make your experience 10x more fun and 100x safer. A good national organization to get started with is NASA. Your local region's website is here: http://www.drivenasafl.com/ Otherwise, check in with the Florida section of this board to find out other smaller organizations that run events.
You mention nurburgring. I've went there last year and it's full of 911's facing the wrong way slammed against a wall most likely because of lack of instruction, skill, and respect. (Seriously, I counted at least 6 severely damaged 911's - 2 of which were GT3RS's).

I agree with Patinum. You want to get the instruction. What you feel is "pushing the limit" on the street is nowhere near what the car is actually capable of. I came from a canyon/street background, and stubbornly refused instruction. Well, lo and behold, my times started improving dramatically after I started getting ride-alongs and commentary on my driving.
The best way to go to one of these events is with an open mind and appropriate respect for the instructor. They're not goobers and as fast as you think you may be, you're probably not. The goal is to get faster and they're a good way to get to that goal.
(BTW, whenever I go to a new track I try and get with an instructor. They can help you learn some of the little tips and tricks that can make your day that much more enjoyable)

well I'll take all of that advice and get instructed. I also thank you for the NASA link. Does SCCA do anything like this as well? Their website is full of fail, I don't know what anything is in that site!
I'll go over to the Florida section to see if there are smaller events I can join.
So what do you guys think, S2k DD and prelude racer?

Also, where do you guys get your racing gear? I want to get a helmet to start out with, I really want to commit to this, both mentally and financially. I'm missing a good hobby, and I've been wanting to do this for years, and now that I'm in Florida instead of NY, I think I can do it.
I would suggest getting a rental your first time, unless you know 100% that this is something you're committing to.
Visit local stores, or you can look online. Make sure the helmet is rated SA05 or newer.
A helmet is absolutely required on track.
