So a 100 mile trip is still the suggestion?

The Toyo tech site says nothing of heatcycling their R-compounds, so I conclude it's unnecessary for their tires (and therefore would be wasteful). And as several of us mentioned earlier, we don't do it.

Tire Rack doesn't seem to have that article any more so I can't link to it. I'm sure that a shorter drive on twisty roads would be as good as, if not better, than a highway cruise for 100 miles. And a parking lot doing figure-8s for 15 minutes would probably be better yet. Whatever your particular situation allows for...

Tire Rack doesn't sell RA1's. I recall reading that article a long time ago, and it is not specific to RA1's.

The Tirerack heat cycling process:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/tec...e.jsp?techid=66

At the bottom it has the manufacturers that recommend heat cycling. "The cost of heat cycling is $15 per tire. Avon, Hoosier, Kumho and Yokohama all recommend that their competition tires be "heat cycled" before being run in competition." --Tirerack

gomarlins3, unless you have the V710, it is recommended that they be shaved to less than 4/32". All Kumho race tires suggest you heat cycle them.

If you buy from the Tirerack pick from this list what you bought by manufacturer then model to see what is recommended.

Looks like I have to get them heat cycled soon. Unfortunetly, I didn't have them shaved. It didn't make sense to me to get less tire for the same cost (more than the same cost since I have to pay them to give me less tire), but now it makes sense why you have to have them shaved for dry pavement.

The Hoosier A6 does not need to be heat cycled according to Hoosier's instructions. I don't think that I have ever had V710s heat cycled and they have worked fine for me.

If you've got Victoracers, I wouldn't worry about shaving or heat cycling. They will last a long time regardless.

you wouldn't run a rain tire on dry pavement. (if you were racing and had a choice between slicks and rains)

following that logic, that's why you wouldn't run unshaved; because unshaved (eg RA1s) is a rain tire; just look at the speed touring guys
