Default Insurance for track car?

I am thinking of getting an EVO as basically a track only car. I will be using it to drive to and from the track also. Is there an insurance company that offers something that would work for me? I don't need the car to be covered while it's on the track (although that would definitely be nice).

My S2k is sold by the way, this just happens to be a good site so i thought i would ask here. My daily driver is an FX45 and it is insured through Unitrin Direct who do not offer any sort of cheap low milage insurance.

Thanks,
Steve

I drive mine only to the track and back lately, still ends up being 1,000 miles a month or more. Most "collector" or light-use insurance I've seen has a yearly mileaage limit...like 2,500 or 5,000 miles a year. Be careful to carefully read the fine print before signing up for a policy like that; not to mention most of them only insure classic or collector cars so I'm not sure you would qualify.

Common providers are places like Hagerty http://www.hagerty.com/ and
Leland West http://www.lelandwest.com/

Don't forget that if the car is financed you'll need insurance at all times. Bank requirement...

Just shop around with your local insurance carriers. Note that some writers will incorrectly tell you that a car is not covered on the track, when in fact it is as long as they are HPDEs. Read the details of the policy paying particular attention to exemptions for racing. Some companies say that timing and/or competition must be involved. others will include any type of use on the track in the exemption clause.

This is off-topic, but I hope that you are aware that Mitsubishi is getting a bad reputation for proactively voiding warrantees on autorossed and track-driven vehicles.

I'm with Liberty Mutual insurance and my agent said if you are driving on a track but you are not racing then you are covered. Lots of guys that I work with at Honda R&D are with them for just this reason...

May want to check them out. The rates were pretty good too.

how cheap of insurance are you looking for? My insurance is through ERIE insurance on my Evo and I pay about $600 per year for full coverage up to 8500 miles per year (which is about what I drive it). But I live in a low crime part of pennsyltucky so we have cheap insurance.
