Kumho V710s for the S2000 in April
Kumho has announced new sizes for the V710. They will be making 225/50-16 and 245/45-16 sizes in April. All you 2004 S2000 owners...nothing for you!
Kumho Press Release
The new sizes are nice, but I wish they had the sizes that they've already released in stock. I tried some out a few weeks ago, but I can't buy them!

I plan to stick around and see what happens. However, I'm not very hopeful that the S2000 (at least the early models) will be as generally competitive in AS. In BS this year I was 20th out of 49. Although the top of BS was faster than the top of AS, my BS time would have put me in 16th out of 28 in AS. I believe it will be more difficult for me to stay in the top half of the class in AS.
It is interesting to note that BS will be getting a little faster in all likelihood. There is a new 350Z coming out this year with extra power. I think the SCCA should have left us where we were, and things would have been tough enough. Over time, particular cars generally get less competitive as newer cars come onto the scene and are sorted out.

I don't see the V710's making much of a difference. We don't seem to have problems with longitudinal grip which is, supposedly, the advantage V710's hold over A3SO4's. While they may help shave a few hundreths on ProSolo launches they may also prove to be harsher on diffs., half-shafts, & CV joints and it'll be futile anyhow since no tire is going to close the gap on C-4's in a drag race. So, why give away a bit of lateral grip when the car really doesn't need, and can't use, the Kuhmo's one better attribute?
Of course I'm probably wrong...
And surely the Saini's, Lamont's, and Wynveen's would rather have two tires for a Tour win rather than $150. If all things were equal, the contengencies still give Hoosier a nod at the top level.
Several of those top 15 AS'ers are out of the class and a few of the top 19 BS'ers are as well.
Wanna share an '05 Boxster-S lease payment with me?
