Default Lap timers

What lap timers do you guys use? I just started taking my car to the track and wanted to get a lap timer.

I found one made by XT racing that seems pretty good, has anyone used it?

I have an intercomp. It stores more laps than the hotlap and has a nicer display.

Other than having to set up your own transmitter, which is less often the case with a hot-lap brand because somebody frequently has already set one up, the XT timer you listed, and the mychron lap timers seem to be higher function, smaller, and lower cost.

I should also say that having a lap timer in the car is the single best thing I have done to really improve my consistancy and lower lap times...

Was that lap that felt fast really fast? How does a different line through a critical corner affect lap times? etc.

I've been very satisfied with the My Chron Lite unit that I use.

Here are some comments:
I paid $220 shipped for my unit - purchased late November 2002 from Aim Sports. Here's a Link.

The cord between the receiver and display is pretty short. It works in the S2000, but may not work in other larger cars. I mount the receiver on velcro attached just above the bottom of my windshield (on the inside of the car ) and mount the display to the A/C vent on the right side of the instrument cluster with a couple of tie-wraps.

At Roebling Road the unit worked perfectly with the transmitter on low power (internal AA batteries). At Sebring, the in-car unit did not consistently pick up the transmitter when on low power. I now use a $20 gel cell (Batteries Plus) with the transmitter on high power and it is entirely reliable.

The folks at AIM (USA distributors) have given me excellent customer support.

The instruction sheet that I received is very poorly translated, but I was able to figure out all of the functions and settings.

The transmitter was included in the unit I purchased, and it is not compatible with Intercomp and Longacre units.

It does not have downloadable capabilities like the Intercomp unit.

I agree CoralDoc! I had to go with a lawn mower battery and High power setting to be reliable. But it's..

1) Compact
2) Simple
3) Stores 480 laps.
4) Can be used in my car and on my Motorcycle!

I took a length of telephone wire and soldered it into the cord to make it 6 feet longer, works great!!!
