Also yes, I was much slower than normal that day.

I was talking to the gentleman from Eibach with the blue S2K who was running an upgraded radiator and while he said water temp was solid, oil temp was getting over 270. I am now looking strongly at a radiator upgrade and a oil cooler for engine longevity.

On the keeping yourself cool front, Frank with the legend car had a novel solution of draping a moist towel over himself, he looked a little strange but he said it was only 70 under the towel. I think ill be giving that a shot at buttonwillow later this month.
Haha the Eibach car was my old AP2

I'm surprised he was hitting 270 on the oil temp though....WITH the radiator upgrade. Maybe he didn't cool off? Did the entire session? I'm curious to find out...

Longevity is a serious concern for me. Lately S2ki has been kind of flooded with engine failure talk.

Was Ringer there? I'm curious to hear how his car was/is holding up. I know he has that upgraded racing radiator that Mrsideways had designed. I think Dylan is running that same radiator too.

Lots of things on the reliability short list that i want to add to my car. This is what is also holding me back from getting Albert's coil overs. I want a baffled pan, oil cooler (maybe the radiator can wait), BBK/vented discs for the rear, and that fluid damper that Urge has. i think all of that should address wear and tear stuff and are all free points for Street class. Then I still need to get one of Justin's RSG bars.

I'm actually working on a relatively affordable drop-in radiator solution...
More details available on this? Time frame?

you can buy a 3 core aluminum radiator (single pass) for like 170$ shipped off ebay

it holds like 2 gallons of distilled water + water wetter

i've never seen a 5th bar (205F) on my temp gauge (modifry) running summer in Florida

robrob has all the details on his site

Well with no oil cooler, the stock oil/water cooler is still only so effective since the oil doesnt stay in it very long.

On the Lemons car with a GIANT oil cooler and a giant aluminum radiator we had no engine cooling issues, and were running it in back to back sessions hot seating the driver all morning. We did manage to overheat the ignition coil with ambient heat from the new headers, but thats a different story.....

This weekend was probably the final straw for me on the upgraded radiator / oil cooler front, and for the ~$1k it will cost to properly cool everything its cheap insurance versus a new motor. It also lays the groundwork for an accumulator. While my car still doesn't put up the lateral grip to really drive oil starvation yet (staggered tires, no aero, stock suspension), its coming and after reading about all the oil starvation related failures, an accumulator is cheap insurance and easy to plumb once a cooler is in place.

On a related note, RobiSpec has built a very nifty radiator upgrade for the FRS/BRZ with an integrated oil cooler. I am curious if anyone out there thinks there might be value to a similar solution for the S2K.

My link

It could be a very nice one stop solution for track heat issues, and laminovas have been proven to be very effective in these scenarios, while dramatically simplifying plumbing.

IN fact after some searching ASM had done one but the price was astronomical which explains why ive never seen one.

For those that don't have a oil cooler, one way to keep your oil temps down a little longer is to run more oil. A large oil filter can take almost one more qt. of oil than the stock Honda S oil filter.
Here is what I use on my '06 it takes 6 qt's to do a filter and oil change.

I started with the B7042 and then switched to the B202(same size as the B7042 but has a higher bypass pressure).
I have now put over 70k miles on my S with these oil filters so that should ease some fear that these will leak or fall off.

My party was the last to stay on Sunday - it was awesome because it was open track with 3 cars. We all hit out fastest lap times during that session.

I run with the fan(heat) on too, and got one extra tick on my temp guage once. Sat for 10min, went back out and it was good after that. But I seemed to be sipping a lot of oil that day too (using 10w-40 motul).

I was hitting 1:37-1:38, with 1:36.5 as my fastest. Stock ap1 ssm with v12s. Was running with the green bands. Just wanted to compare what other s2ks got (stock or mod)

Btw I had dehydration at the end and I was drinking like a fish (water). Need to be careful out there.

Edit: picture

Awesome, I was watching you around the track, looked solid!

Yup, that was me, first time out on the track and had a blast. Ill be back out there as much as possible, but not in the heat, that was a brutal day.
