Default Nitto NT05 On Stock AP2 Rims

This is posted here because I'm curious as to the performence between these compared to other in similar specs people might recommend on the track.

Looks like it's about that time to swap my tires. I probably have about another month of use left out of them, and am looking at other options outside of OEM to replace them with. The car is currently my daily till the other car is complete, and will being seeing some track time off an on.

At this time OEMs are just to pricey, and I feel it's time to upgrade. I'm liking what I hear about the Nitto NT05s, but they are only available in 235/40/17, and 255/40/17. I know the 255s will fit the rear without issues, but I'm wondering if the 235s may be to much for the fronts. If anyone has experience please chime in, especially if it's with these tires.

Would you recommend going with another tire instead, and why? I had one person say to go with the Star Specs instead, but that was only because it's what they use. How do they compare? Are there better options?

All help appreciated.

could you tell me why you suggest this? Is it more of a performance benefit, or safety precaution?

I don't think anyone knows how the NT05 stack up just yet. That being said, a 235 front tire is going to fit, but it will be very pinched.

I'd go with a different tire.

One good reason for. 225

I'm s2kcallenge, 235 front adds a point !!
Seriously. It is not good to have front and rear on different "pinch". 235 will pinch more, which gives inconsistent handling.

dam didn't know it added a point!! I can live with that.

I hear what you're saying, but those dam Nittos don't come in any other size in 17's.

I'll try looking into other options as well, but I have read posts where people notice the pinch and others where it isn't noticeable with this size tire on our stock front wheel. Also some use it for autocross and tracking and don't complain. If the side wall is very stiff then will that not compensate for it?

Also Nitto states to use with anywhere from an 8" to 9" wheel. I wonder how much of a pinch there will be with a .5" difference.

there are just so many choices in that sub $150 range, RS3, 595RSR, Z1, XS, and all the above tires are equal or better than NT05, why stuck with NT05

they do make a mistake not making 225/45/17

nothing wrong with running pinched. my earlier comment is that it is bad idea to run pinched on 1 end and not the other. as long both are pinched, it is fine, as the breakaway characteristics are the same for front and rear.

this issue GRM, again XS was the top autocross tires. so far, GRM has tested all UHP tires except for RS3 and NT05. but of the rest, XS was the best. it is also cheap.

Pricing looks to be really good for the XS, and the reviews are all high, however, I see that they are not to good in wet conditions. I wonder just how bad, and if this will be a problem in daily use. They are just slightly cheaper then the star specs, but they are favored over them.
