As Rylan has learned, don't believe everything you read on the Internet...

A great time was had by all in U3 and Rylan, Aaron, and Bob made us work a lot harder then expected to win the class. It would be hard to find a nicer bunch of trash talking racing folks.

The Rusty Old JB Welded Datsun came through in its first outing in 3 years. Like most OTC competitors, it wasn't ready until the Friday before the event. Bryan and I expected many more problems then we had. Luck played a big part in our win.

I have to give Rylan a big thanks for spotting and pointing out a crack propagating around our intake manifold the second day at T-Hill. He could have just as easily walked away and watched us drop out of the event.

We'll probably be out again next year in U3 and it will be a pleasure racing against Rylan, Erin, and Bob and watching their progress in our rear view mirror. ;-)

Psst John, its "Aaron" "Erin" is a girls name

I find it funny that there's not a single picture of the s2k on the flying miata site and minimal mention of us. Despite us handing the Miata a serious ass kicking and beating it 5 of the 7 days, you'd think we didn't exist.

to John & Brian. You guys were top notch and loads of fun to "almost" beat

I can't wait for '04.

I stand corrected, they have ONE pic claiming we "limped" off the track with "damage to our underside", sooooo far from the truth. Aaron went off between turns 3&4 w/ hot slicks and completely covered them in rocks. He thought he had lost the bead on a tire and was careful driving back. Turns out nothing at all was wrong, except all 4 tires -covered- in rocks.

If y ou had to do it over again, how would you prep your car differently? If at all.

How many sets of tires did you guys go through and which compound Dunlops (?) did you use?

We had 5 sets of Dunlops between us plus 3 sets of Yokos. We each went thru 2.5 sets of dunlops with Ry cording a set of fronts fairly quickly. We were sharing the last set of dunlops the last day at LV.

The Dunlops weren't a secret. That fast as hell M3 driven by Scott Smith was wearing them and so were a number of other top competitors.

My fronts corded half way thru the second day. I went and got my alignment checked and it was way off. The second set of fronts lasted 4 days. Both sets of rears still have life left.

Do you think there are lighter weight 18" wheels to be had in the same offsets? I saw the group buy earlier and thought the wheels were somewhat heavy, but that might be typical for 'lightweight' 18"s?

Not for under $2000 there are. Yes there are some wheels that are lighter, but for thier size they are plenty light.

I might be able to save a couple lbs if I was willing to spend 4-5k for them. 3pc wheels are always going to be heavier than a single forged piece.
