HaHa, since most of the fluff is from me I would understand why one would suggest that I taake on that task, but I suck at spelling. It would be awesome to have it organized though.

Someone attempted to make one about 6 months ago did't they? It's around here somewhere.

Actually that was what I had intended to do with the threads I had started before, go through the STR Prep thread and sort it into appropriate catagories, but, as you know was not greeted very well.

That list was really bad though, and included things that aren't really necessary as being necessary...
It would be nice to see a general FAQ of some of the more popular and successful set-ups though. As well as different levels of prep, like what can be accomplished on stock shocks/springs and such.

I'm not talking about making a shell thread and asking people to rehash. I'm talking about reading through and organizing the information that's there. Entirely two different things.

For an STR FAQ thread, these are my ideas:

Take the most trusted builders and National-Grade STR drivers and ask their composite wisdom on different topics.

I'm thinking Fiedler, Yom and Glagola to start if they're willing. Marc, I'd ask you but you've just joined the class recently. .

I think that's the cleanest way to separate out the garbage. Which is the point of a FAQ thread. I care not so much if someone wins a local club STR trophy in an underprepped class. We're talking about STR prep for a National arena.

That's what I had intended, since I was going to be reading the STR prep thread, I figured I could quote out the 'meat' into the four threads, but, that was smashed before it got started, just like Josh's idea is being smashed.

Your threads were "smashed" because the way you divided them up made no sense -- the differences between AP1 prep and AP2 prep mostly aren't significant enough to warrant splitting them up into separate threads, and you created two track threads for a class that's autocross-specific. Josh's idea is being "smashed" because many people disagree with the premise that putting STR information into a separate, harder-to-find subforum with no additional organization will make it more useful.

If I were forking the STR thread, I'd split it up into something like "Wheels and tires", "Engine mods and tuning", "Suspension", "Rules discussion", and "Event discussion and BS-ing". That way relevant conversations would stay together, but it would be easier to get the kind of information you wanted without sifting through a bunch of unrelated stuff.

In response to TTMartin

Quoting without knowing the origin of the sources doesn't advance the FAQ.
No offense, but a FAQ cannot encompass all opinions. It has to streamline. And IMHO it has to include National prep only. Setup for late Fall events in the snow belt for 30 second courses with pin turns will require vastly different car prep and setup.
