Question about counter steering
I think that zbrewha had the correct perspective.
The OP was someone who never has set foot on a track and he is trying to get the appropriate image in his "mind's eye."
I think we'd do him a disservice by putting touge-drifters into his head for his first track day.
I think the vid that az3ar posted is a good example of smooth = fast.

As Mike said in the video... he has a great feel for the car. This is what I tell all my students... feel the car it’s your number one priority. Everything else comes second. If you have a good deep feel of the object you are controlling you will know its breaking points.
Also, in that video I suspect looking at the graph (if both F1 cars are equal which are not) that Mike is left foot braking. Left foot braking if done properly and constantly will make you faster...

Ross Brawn talking about Schumacher's ability to correct. Schumacher speaks about feel for the car.
