Just a reminder to not trust the jack to hold the car up. We all hear and know this but sometimes we forget. At Infineon last Sunday I wanted to swap around rear wheels because of uneven wear, and decided to jack up the rear only using the jack under the diff. I was in a hurry and lazily didn't use my jack stands which I had (like most of us do every now and then). I got one wheel off when the jack failed and the rear fell to the ground (rotor hit ground, so luckily my foot wasn't there). Had to use a couple other jacks to get that corner back off the ground. So a reminder to be careful.

BTW, there is a good sale on on the Big Red (by Torin) aluminum racing jack with twin-pistons and a pair of fancy aluminum 3000 lb jack-stands all for $129 after rebate at Pep Boys. It's super smooth, more leverage, and a lot nicer than the Harbor Freight that I had. However, it does seem a bit heavier and larger (like the Sears jack).
Wow, good reminder Richard. I often get lazy myself when in a hurry. Glad you didn't get hurt

Good reminder.

I heard there was some Torin jack that was long and low enough to reach the front crossmember without driving up on blocks first. Is this the one? I really want that AC Hydraulics DK13HLQ for that reason, but this is a lot less coin.

Will the DK13HLQ reach the front cross member at stock ride height? Lowered?

I would really like to find a jack that will.

The AC DK13HLQ is fantastic, well worth the money IMO.

That's the one i use at my house. Along with jack stands and wheel chocks. Always use all 3. As many failsafes as possible.

What kind of jack stands do you guys use? I always find ones that are very tall.

Wow! 6-year old thread come back to life! I'm OK with it as it is a good safety reminder.

I was under my car all day today taking off my JRZs and putting on stock shocks. Saw this post earlier this morning, and made sure I was safe. Thanks for the reminder.

I don't know about that. I would rather drag my 50+lb AC jack to the track than a lightweight harbor-freight special. Then again, I have no use for low quality products of any kind.
