Generally an impact gun doesn't work so well on the crank bolt, as the crank ends up absorbing a lot of the impacting force. The Honda tool works the best, but it does take a lot of force. This can seem like too much, if you have never done it before.

I've had great luck using impacts on crank pulley bolts on other hondas. since the force is generally rotational, I can't see it harming anything.

You really have to put quite a bit of muscle behind it. The motor will rock from the amount of force you have to put into it.

Got it done, let it soak with PB Blaster over night and it finally broke loose this morning. Thanks for the other tips.
