Dry ice and a scraper.
Exactly! I stipped my old Toyota Celica Down, put all the pieces I took out in a little plastic tub, and weighed it. Low and behold I shaved 26lbs off the car! I honestly couldn't even tell a difference afterwards.

I did that too in my civic but I didnt need dry Ice. I just parked it in the drive way in the end of december and started scraping away it was pretty easy (the average temp that week was around 35 degrees farenheight). I also wore my wamest winter clothes and kept the windows down lol.

The curb weight is now 2,551.3 pounds, and the crank horsepower is (give or take a few) 260hp. The power to weight ratio has gone from 11.7 pounds per horsepower to 9.8 pounds per horsepower. That is definitely a noticeable improvement.
Nice write up, very detailed. We were able to get mine down to 2283lbs before installing the cage. Now with full cage, twin "Nascar style doors" 1/4 tank of fuel we sit at 2400lbs. I noticed during the weight reduction our big gain was gutting the doors, all we have now is a hollow shell, we lost of 36lbs per side by doing this, just make sure you carry a car cover to the track for the rainy days....

Is there anything worth taking out of the doors if you leave the window, the motors, and switches in? I'm guessing most of the weight savings come from the glass and the motor assembly.

i've done all the weight reduction i planned to do today:
full soft stop assembly removal (motor + top + all mechanics + all metals)
AC system removal
passenger seat removal
interior carpet removal
trunk layer removal
trunk plastics removal
stock roll bar hoops removal (already done before)
stock roll bar hoop plastic removal (already done before)
secret compartment stuff removal (already done before)

ok anyways, if you look in my car, you will only see:
dash, shift knob
driver's seat (sparco)

it's a strip club!!!

weight reduction calculation:
8.5 (aftermarket intake) AEM
23.6 AC system
33 passenger seat
50 interior deadening / trunk panels
18 (aftermarket wheels) rough estimate
78 soft top
8 interior carpet
? stock roll bar hoops removal (replace w/Elda Eng. roll bar)
? stock roll bar hoop plastic removal
? secret compartment stuff removal
? aftermarket coilovers (JRZ)

total weight loss:
roughly 219 lbs (not including the missing weights)

s2k factory curb weight:
2,809 lbs

current weight (still alot of numbers missing)
2,809 - 219 = 2,590 lbs

calculations missing:
stock roll bar hoops
center consol plastics (the wind deflector and glovebox looking stuff)
driver's seat removal (aftermarket seat)

also running a 6pt harness & looking forward to losing more weight
so I'm thinking of removing the center metal piece that usually holds the stock roll hoops?? and seatbelts.

here's a picture

Once that piece is out, I'll get the crevices underneath spot welded. Please don't mind the reservoirs held up by zip ties. It's going through some changes.

I saw one of Gotuning's pictures:

as you can see the center metal piece (that divides the trunk compartment and cabinet) is removed. only difference is the full roll cage that it's running. I'm sure an aftermarket roll bar / cage will help the missing support (if there is any).

If I find someone who can spot weld, i'll remove it and weigh it & let u guys know! I'm not 100% if I really need to get that emptied area welded to maintain (or better) the rigidity.

btw this is sort of daily drive.

u mean u can lose nearly 4 kgs from an intake mod?

btw, how did u get the 2809 from factory as a curb weight? i thought our cars weighed only about 2770 lbs? or 1260kg?

I didn't really look at up, I only read what the thread starter said:
"The curb weight of a MY00 off the showroom floor is 2,809 pounds. To reach my goal, I had..."

the intake mod is also from the thread starter.

Since some of this stuff is confusing / perhaps inaccurate, I'll weigh every part that exists in my box of removal after i get some sleep for the night
