only 10-15 pounds i believe, if you meant just removing motors and keeping the rag.

 

Did you remove the stock tank through the floor, or drop the subframe, as the shop manual says to do it?

 

*eek* why would you put the gas tank so far back? It would have fit in the oem location and that would be WAY better for weight.

Keep in mind those soft top motors are way up high so removing them will help lower the center of gravity too. I'm running a hard top but I'd definitely give this a try if I had the soft top installed.

 

I suppose it's easier to build a fire-wall around the cell placed back there? Plenty of room to place it closer to the car's CG though.

On another note: I don't recall the soft top motors weighing much of anything. If you're a casual enough track day attendee that you still have a soft top, I don't think I'd be worried about the 8-10lbs.

 

Not sure what the rational is but, all of the endurance cars that are being racing in the Super Taikyu series as well as a few others in Australia all have the tanks located in the rear of the car and they all have a firewall.

Yea, the motors by themselves are insignificant. Even if they're 5lbs each, if that's the only thing you are taking out, it's not worth it.

 

i removed the stock tank by lowering the subframe, replaced the subframe and then cut out the hump that covered the stock tank. i put the fuel cell in the rear for a few reasons... the 15gal cell that i have wouldnt fit in the stock location, i wanted to set the weight toward the rear a bit more just in case i decided to make the car a strict drag car, and i wanted it easier to get to the fill hole and i didnt want to run a hose to it. i did think about the weight changing as i used fuel but figured it wouldnt make a huge difference. ive driven the car quite a bit since putting the cell in and havent had any trouble with handling so far. it feels just like it used to before the install.
