Thanks a bunch for the great post Jason! I'm really looking forward to my 1st auto-X experience (well, 2nd total actually) in the S2000.

Bringing this back from the dead - thanks for an informative post!

Classing sucks, I really want to do susp/wheels (I'm kinda a sucker for appearance), but convertibles [EDIT: 2-seaters, not 'verts] aren't counted in STS/X/U (why is this?) and without throwing down some serious cash, being competitive in ASP [EDIT: BSP] would be tough. There really isn't any in-between step. Has anyone been able to get away with using Koni's or other on their lower spring perch and still run in TAS?

Also, have there been any updates to these rules? Any talk about classes being tweaked? The current SCCA rules seem to agree with what's posted here. Especially since S2000's are in A-Stock again (apparently they went A-B-A?)

Convertibles are fine in STS/X/U. It's just that 2-seaters aren't allowed. STS2 is a fairly new class. The Solo Events Board (SEB) said that they may consider STX2 which may include the S2000, after STS2 becomes an official national class.

The S2000 is in BSP, and there were a couple of pretty successful S2000s in BSP a couple years ago. Maybe not top dogs as long as the Evo is in BSP though.

You can't run shocks with a lower than stock perch setting in A Stock. That would be cheating. I really hope that you're not seriously thinking about cheating in an amateur sport.

Changes: There is now SM2, which the S2000 is eligible for. AP has become XP, and the S2000 is allowed there as well. Cross drilled rotors that are stock size are allowed in BSP.

BSP, then SM2 "Street Mod 2-seaters," are the two classes to look at if you plan on autocrossing a modified S2000.

Good luck

I think the car is too popular for an ST* class to not come around eventually. Just a matter of time.

How would an AP2 with the soft top replaced with a hard top classify in SCCA? I thought it would be BSP legal since the CR can be purchased with a hard top in lieu of a soft top.

I've heard conflicting things about X-braces being legal for BSP and SM2...

X-brace legality: They aren't. There was a fool a few years ago who argued incessantly that they were legal, and just ignored it when people quoted the rules for him.

Right now I don't think that there is a separate listing for the S2000 CR in BSP. The rule is that if two models/years/packages share the same line in their Street Prepared class listing, then they can interchange components. So you could remove the soft top for BSP. And since everything that's allowed in BSP is also allowed in SM2, you can run without a soft top there too.

You would not have to run with the hard top installed, since it is removable. You might be required to run with the rear deck cover and/or brace installed, but I'm not sure. Update/backdate rules are not my specialty.
