X-brace legality: They aren't. There was a fool a few years ago who argued incessantly that they were legal, and just ignored it when people quoted the rules for him.

Right now I don't think that there is a separate listing for the S2000 CR in BSP. The rule is that if two models/years/packages share the same line in their Street Prepared class listing, then they can interchange components. So you could remove the soft top for BSP. And since everything that's allowed in BSP is also allowed in SM2, you can run without a soft top there too.

You would not have to run with the hard top installed, since it is removable. You might be required to run with the rear deck cover and/or brace installed, but I'm not sure. Update/backdate rules are not my specialty.
Thanks for your response. I've never run with SCCA, so I just wanted to make sure others didn't get upset with my classification. I just want to get some seat time and check out a SCCA event.

That was my understanding as well. That's why I was confused when Saini in his initial post mentioned using one.

[QUOTE=Orthonormal,May 27 2008, 01:37 AM] Convertibles are fine in STS/X/U.

I think that a set of well-tuned coilovers along with wide wheels and tires will get you 90% of the way there in terms of the car. There's all kinds of other stuff you can spend time and money on in BSP but the returns are pretty small. If you're interested in local competition only, I think you'd be in good shape. If you're interested in trying to win National Tour or ProSolo events on a reasonable budget, then A Stock is the way to go.

I'm glad you weren't thinking sneaky thoughts.

Does any nationally competitive AS S2000 run with a roll bar? I've been considering the S2000 for my next autocross car to get away from the headaches of maintaining an STX WRX. But I'd want to have a car that is competitive at the top-level in autocross, while still being safe to drive on track. From what I've been reading here, the roll bars aren't really a bolt in option (not easily anyway), and are 60-70 or so pounds - a decent amount of extra weight. Have I come to the right conclusion that I have to choose between a competitive autocross car and a track-safe car that's not perfect for autocross?

Hobbs, this may vary by region but in many cases you can participate in a Solo2 event with a "time-only" classification, not competing for points or trophies. That'd let you get a feel for it, not piss off ANY competitors, and decide if following the rules is worth it to you to get into actual competition.

If a region has a large turn-out they might restrict time-only entries to make room (daylight time is limited) for actual competitors.

Yep, here in the LA/San Diego areas you could simply buy X-runs and not be classified. Just run for time.

I don't recall seeing any S2000's at Topeka with a roll bar. It would stiffen the chassis a little bit but I think weight, (also being generally up high) would not be a good thing. 60-70 lbs is a significant amount of weight.

If you want a top Nationally competitive car in autocross, the roll bar would not be one way to achieve it me thinks. Note that the S2k has roll bars behind the seats and that is acceptable for some tracks........make the roll bar removable/bolt-in? Is that possible?

They're regionally created classes, and the rules depend on the region.

The AP1 and AP2 are in the same classes.
