Why are we so set on running r-tires? Why not run the series on street tires? Allow any +120 treadwear rating street tire of choice.

The only upside I see of running r-tires is for quicker lap times.

The downsides for r-tires are:
- may need aftermarket suspension = more cost
- r-tires wear significantly faster than street tires = more cost
- brakes, suspensions, chassis compenents wear significanly more while running r-tires = more cost
- going faster technically will be more dangerous if things do go wrong on the track, especially for inexperienced drivers who don't yet have good car control skills = safety
- hassle of transporting extra set of wheel to/from the track if we don't feel like driving 100+ miles to the track on r-tires = convenience

I find that RA1s last longer on the track than most street tires. I'm not at all sure they represent "extra cost".

I found with myself and other members around here that RA-1s are better street and track tires that SO-2s... they last longer

I'll say it again, use AS SCCA Solo rules. Pretty simple and not alot of money and many people that may be interested in this type of series are already there.

-Any front sway bar
-Any catback exhaust
-Stock intake other than element
-Any brake pads,fluids
-Stock springs, any shock, nothing beyond double adj.
-OEM spoilers, nothing else
-Pick a wheel size or just use the stock sizes for AP1 or AP2
-Spec tire

There is alot of AutoXers running AS that are probably growing a tad tired of the SCCA and this would be another avenue for fun without alot of cost that would allow you more than six 55 second runs spread across 2 days.

^^^but with so many tracked S2000 on coilovers... You wont get the participation unless you let them change the suspension.

The car needs more spring, and you cant get that in AS rules

Most certainly RA1's would be far superior to any street tire in terms of level of grip and speed. I have also heard they last just as long as S02's on the street, but i would really hate to waste an R compound tire on the street. Anyways, if we were to run with street tires, a perfect tire would be the hankook ventus rs2. Cheap and offers similar grip to S02's at half the price. I'm pretty sure 2 sets of hankooks would last longer than a single set of RA1. It won't be as fast as with R compounds but it will really test the driver's skill.

I don't know, this definitely goes to my early point of attracting people to the class by making the car useful beyond just the SV S2000 series. If you matched the SCCA AS rules, you would have a ready-made supply of already prepped S2000s.

The only thing that bothers me about it is the restriction against the bumpsteer kit.

The car does not "need" more spring, but most people thing it responds well to more spring. Likewise it responds well to more camber.

I'm not sure you will really get a lot of participation from the current HPDE crowd anyway. As an example, consider Twohoos. He PROPOSED the thing in the first place, IIRC, but says he would be unwilling to move back to it if he has to replace his flywheel.

Most people who have already modded their cars are going to face similar issues (for instance, I would not want to give up my A-arms that I recently bought and installed). But with the AS rules, you have a whole bunch of S2000s already prepped and ready to go. In that case you just need to convince their drivers to come on out and try it.
