Not with a fine tooth comb but I do recall that the profile cannot be altered. You mentioned running 275 Hoosiers which are 10.3" and that's gonna require one hell of a wheel.

 

I have a turbo S2000, and I can run TT4 - TT2. I wouldn't run the 275s in TT4, haha. I would run the 245 R7 in TT4. I am also not worried about my car ever running Honda Challenge.

 

I ran sebring last month on 275/35 17 A7's on 949 17x10's. However my fast lap was done on a 235 on a 17x9. In fact on the data the corner grip was nearly identical between the 2, but the pull off the corners was significantly better on the 235/640 17. Oh and 3 mph on the end of the straight as well.

A bit more expensive but these are very nice, I got them in black and they look great. No rubbing on rear with a good roll but I do have wide fenders up front so if you are on stocks you may need to pull just a bit.

How is everyone so seemingly OK with basically being required to run a hoosier to be competitive? Shouldn't tires with similar power to weight modifiers be capable of generating equivalent-ish lap times? I don't understand this and it frustrates me

A 245 RE71R will never in a million years compete with a 225 R7 on a 10" wheel and yet they both are a 0.7 modifier in TT4.

 

It's been that way since the beginning of time, your racing, use a race tire. Street tires offer no contingency, are annoying to drive on, continuously overheat, and if you want to make the argument that you can drive to the track on them, no you can't you still need to bring them as a 2nd set cause you'll heat cycle em out street driving and once they have any wear at all on them they are terrible and dangerous in the wet. I drove a set of RE71r's home from an autox recently (My truck was in the shop) on the FRS with basically 2 autox's on the set and I had some pretty heavy rain.... let me tell you, never again. When your hydroplaning at 5 or less mph, screw that it was scary as hell, it took me 5 hours to go 160 miles. For street driving, buy 700 treadware Allseasons that last you 10 years. They call it purple crack for a reason, Once you go crack, you never go back. I completely HATE driving on street tires in competition. Very annoyed SCCA got rid of R comps in stock class. I'll build a Prepared class car just so I can race on real tires again.

 

I understand all of these drawbacks but still don't understand why it would be assessed the same points modifier as a 225 R7 (which is really a 245). It seems like a cruel joke to declare them equivalent by classification.

 

its the tire to run plus it pays contingency... buy a set used. go faster, win free tires and now rinse and repeat... no longer have to buy tires only pay hoosier for shipping plus hoosiers are a lot more fun to drive on
