Pretty bad. Tired, no focus. I should have hung around and finished off the day at Streets. I really like the new alignment, as long as I'm on the throttle. If I've only got a light throttle, the back end is still too loose.
And then there's turn 3... (thanks for missing me, 74) ;-)
Sfphinky, I think you need more spring rate in your car for the Dunlops. It felt pretty good putting around at 5/10ths but might be compromised at the limit:
Many thanks to davepk for letting me do some laps in his car. Some of you may have been following his progress in the "Open Source Brake System" thread. I can say that even though not complete, his system is already waaaaaaaaaaaaaayy better than what it replaced, and better for his purposes than the stock system. Especially after we got the bias dialed in... It's one mean machine!
I get the asshat award for killing my rear tire in the second session Saturday AM. Sucks that I never got to run more and ended up so far off the pace on saturday.
The pic certainly explains will's rubbing problems. But I think he's running higher spring rates than dave and I.
Sunday Ended up (from memory):
Me: 1:28.1
Dave: 1:28.7
Will: 1:29.0?
Aaron in my car: 1:29.3
Will was looking good out there. Twohoo's takes the record for sunday's fastest s2k on s02s running a 1:36.
OMG - great. That's just what my ego needed, someone beating me with street tires.
I think the best time I managed was a 1:37.1... :-/ Maybe someday I'll learn to drive better than that guy that drove through the farmer's market in Santa Monica.
Even though I wasn't able to be there the whole day, I was still able to do laps in a few cars.
Big thanks goes to Rylan for letting me take his car for a session after he burned up his slicks. The car was fun to drive even on full tread RA1's. The weight savings made the car handle incredibly and attacking turns like the back chicane became a breeze even at ludicrus speeds.
It's amazing how the car is considerabley more responsive. The JRZ suspension is simply amazing. Makes me want to make a $4,000.00 investment as soon as I can.
Hopefully I'll have my car ready for Buttonwillow and I'm sure I'll see you guys there.
Thanks for the advice on stiffening up the rear- I did one more click on the low and high speed compression on the JRZ's. It took 0.4 seconds off my next session, and another 0.5 by the end of the day...1:34.0xx.
On Sunday I did 1:32.6xx in the first session (scared the guys on slicks and FI for a while ). I softened up the front (one click less on the low compression) and was able to rotate the car better on trail braking.
Definitely was the most fun weekend I've had from a driving perspective. Too bad I can't make Buttonwillow.
