It also depends on how much power and available traction you have. I have not played with launches enough with my S2K to know yet; but on other vehicles I've used 2 steps, I either had too much power or not enough traction where if you are WOT on the 2 step, once you start rolling and the 2 step de-activates, you will blow the tires off and lose time spinning. Personally, I use the 2 step to know what point I should hold the throttle at a launch, which may only be 30% or less. And then when launching, slowly feed throttle in with the available grip.

Thanks, both of those points make sense.

Cool, thanks for the info. I should have the EMU in the car in about 2 weeks. Then I'll have even more questions!

Thanks to all that have contributed to this thread! I've got PDF copies of many pages to review easily later when I'm in the car.

Does anyone know how Jon Lugod's soft limiter works? As Heyward pointed out, it sounds like its got a CVT.

I dig the question. I'd like to learn more about that too.

I can't seem to connect to the EMU. I'm applying 12V to pin 25 and grounding pin 24, along with the printer-cable-style USB cable connected between the EMU and my computer. Device Manager says the drivers are not installed.

I've tried running PreInstaller.exe from C:\Program Files (x86)\TRUST\GReddy e-manage Ultimate\driver with no luck. I've also tried a similar driver from version 1.05. They both look like they install correctly, but the EMU is still invisible to the computer.

I'm running Win 7, could that be a factor? This should be easy from all my searches, I hope I'm just missing something simple...

From what i remember from the install it does not work on Win7. Either use an XP laptop or install an old copy of XP on your Win7 machine. I used this How-to and VMWare software to install XP on my Win7 laptop. This is what i needed to do about a year ago. Not sure if the new version software is any different or there are any other new work arounds.

Is it 32 or 64 bit?

Windows 7 works perfectly fine as long as it is 32 bit and not 64 bit. I have Windows 7 Professional 32-bit on my laptop for my EMU software.

Yup, good point. I use a dedicated laptop for working on my car so I made my life simpler by installing Win7 x86.
