Good to know; thanks.

Also, I realize this is old "news" for anyone seriously into autocross, but the new hotness in tires for Street Touring classes now are the Bridgestone RE71R and BFG Rival S.

Recent Match Tour, Champ Tour, and Prosolo results:

I haven't actually driven on the RE71Rs on an S2000 yet, but have sampled them in the 255/35-18 size under a Subaru STI in B Street. The RE71Rs have significantly more grip than the R-S3s we were on before. Not surprisingly, the Bridgestones are softer and wear faster than the Hankooks too.

Also, the new Bstones and 2nd-gen Rivals will cost you $35–55 more per tire than the Hankook R-S3s (in a 255/40-17).

The Kosei wheels (picture below) don't come with center caps and IMHO have a bit too much of a FWD look. There is a thread about them: Kosei K5R and K8R, new STR Wheels? - S2KI Honda S2000 Forums https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/111...ew-str-wheels/ via @invisionps

The silver Enkei's are $275, $424 more for a set. Enkei is more of a mainstream brand with more likelihood a replacement wheel will be available in the future. All three plus more expensive and yet lighter forged wheels are on STRs. Whether the weight makes a difference would depend on where it is located...does it have a material effect on the rotational moment of inertia. In any event, it would be less than shaving the tires where all the lost weight is at the circumference.

Yeah I might have been too focused on the TRs and saving money...the Kosei K8Rs look good and are 2 lbs lighter per wheel!

60 treadwear? Almost legal for STR...

If we're going outside the margins, the Federal RS-R at about $100 a tire is by far the best 255/40 around (for the price)--again, non-legal treadwear @140.

Just curious what the thought, by those who go fast, is regarding the better tire--Rivals or RE71R. I've been using the Bridgestones for a year, and like them, but it's coming time to buy new tires, and I thought I'd see what people think.

Thanks.

if you want RE71R tires this year in the 255 typical STR size order them like now because they are backordered 2 months. I'm running B street and I've decided I like the 245s better, but I can only fit 245 up front so I guess my opinion doesn't count as much.

As far as I've heard the Rival S tires can be nearly as fast or faster depending on the person but aren't as stiff a sidewall and are harder to drive as fast. You can also get them so now I think so might be the time to try them.

Someone in DC region made a review video for the different tires using an ND Miata

Haha, throwback Crazy Eddie reference! Making me remember my NJ childhood.
