Wheel width question!

I currently run SSR Type-Fs (17x8.5,~16lbs). Would moving to 17x9 wide wheels provide a discernible difference or would it just fall into the "noise"?

While probobly not noticeable by anyone, unless you have alien talent, it will make a difference. Small amounts of "noise" do combine with other small amounts to add up to hundredeths which add up to tenths etc. Depending on prep level though there may be lower hanging fruit for you.

I would say 8.5 to 9 is a discernible difference.

Thanks for the input! Now to find my unicorn wheels, SSR Type C in 17x9. I'll probably just get some PF01s as they are light and relatively inexpensive. Those TRM wheels that just popped up in the FS section are tempting... and with two sets of wheels, I can do tire comparisons.

So, my wallet hates me...

Also as far as I know the SSR only comes in +55 offset. It works but not ideal. BTW I have a post on my blog about STR wheel options. http://casertaracing.com/blog/what-w...hoice-for-str/

Ah, yeah, that might lead to additional unwanted fender flare. Thanks for the link, good info there.

More exact wheel weights (that no one cares about):

Enkei PF01 17" x 9", 60mm offset, matte black finish, no valve stems or center caps = 17.09, 17.09, 17.10, 17.15 lb
Enkei PF01 center cap (each) = 1.0 oz (.063 lb)
Enkei-supplied black shorty steel valve stem (each) = 0.6 oz (.04 lb)

My PF01s on the car (at Solo Nats 2014):

^What is your ride height, tire width, and camber settings? And what modifications were needed to prevent tire rubbing?

I have been using the Hankooks for the last year, and find that I'm happiest with 31.5psi rear and 33psi front. This is with 255/40-7 all around on 17x9 wheels, in a well set up STR car.

I have just switched to the new Bridgestone RE71R. Can anyone with experience autocrossing this in the 255/40-17 size all around give me an idea of a good starting point for pressures?

Thanks!

Mark

Not sure where else to post this, so I'll post it here rather than making a new thread.

Just lowered my car 1.25" on Swift Spec R springs. 8+45/9+45 with 225/255 ZIIs. Fronts and rears rolled, rear tab relocated. I realize that the relocated tabs makes me no longer eligible for STR, I'm only doing local events though so they may be more flexible. If not, what class would I be moved to? BSP? Everything else is stock.

Plan on getting a Moddiction front sway bar when they come back in stock.

Looking to get an alignment. I'm looking for good specs to have it aligned at, with performance in mind first and second wheel/tire clearances. Any recommendations?

I was thinking

Camber: -3.0f/2.8r
Toe: 0inf/ Unsure on rear (maybe 1/4")
Caster: 5.5? (or should I max it out?)

I know that the swift springs are rather soft, but they are just temporary till I can afford a better quality full coilover system.
