Default Suspension set up questions.

Hey guys,

I put a Buddy Club suspension on my car yesterday. As it is now, its set 5 clicks out of 15, F&R

Due to slightly worn tires, and its natural oversteer tendencies I want to stiffen it up a little more all around, and while I'm at it counter act a little of the tail happiness.

Part of me says to increase the damping on the rear so its a little more planted, but then conversly, the 04 has a softer rear to reduce the oversteer.

So I'm kinda arguing with myself which direction I should take. I don't want to spend all day messing with it, and I don't have a suitable test area that I can go out and do some runs to see what I'm actually gaining.

If anyone has some insight I would appreciate it.

Also, if anyone has any resources that could help me with a better understanding of suspensions, and thier effect on the car, that would be great too

thanks

When I run the fronts ~3-4 clicks stiffer than the rears it feels pretty good. Not tail-happy but not pushing either.

This is an auto-x impression - not track results so YMMV.

Shock settings, by definition, affect only *transient* handling balance (i.e. *while* weight is shifting). If the oversteer problem is due to uneven tire wear, then under steady-state cornering you'll still be loose.

Also, there's no single shock adjustment that will increase understeer under all conditions; it's bound to increase oversteer under the "opposite" conditions (i.e. weight shifting the other way). Still, here's a pretty good "cheat sheet" I use:
http://www.ozebiz.com.au/racetech/th...hocktune1.html

Assuming corner entry is where you'd most like to reduce the twitchiness (that's the trickiest part of most corners), increasing front compression and rebound and/or decreasing rear compression and rebound is the way to go. Note that this will make the car a little looser during corner exit.

mike as you may have experienced driving my car at the track, my car displayed terminal understeer at corner entry.

this was with 14 clicks front and rear....i really think (and we'll found it in a couple of weeks when we go back to the track) that 10/14 would be an ideal balance.

maybe 10/12 actually...front to back.

That's what's got me thinking.. You're saying stiffer in the rear, I have to think the dynamics of the 04 are differant. I took the easy route and just bumped my front up 2 clicks over the rear and its already improved.

My car at even settings was more tail happy then stock, your car, I could barely get the rear end around. You have the rear strut brace, I don't, short of that, I think we are even, or do you have a thinner rear sway as well?

I'm looking forward to the next track day to really tweak it, but I want to get a broad range of ideas, so I can compare them to my own ass, and make sure I maximise my fun out there while I'm at it.

A rear strut brace isn't going to do much for over/understeer...

The 04 has a thinner rear and front bar than an 00.
