Default wheel spacers

Hey guys, I ran into a weird problem where the proper fitment TR Motorsports 17" wheels don't clear my brakes (the old Parts Helper kit which fits under the OEM 16").<br style="color: rgb(28, 40, 55); font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px; background-color: rgb(250, 251, 252);"><br style="color: rgb(28, 40, 55); font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px; background-color: rgb(250, 251, 252);">Anyway, it looks like 3 mm spacers will get me rolling.<br style="color: rgb(28, 40, 55); font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px; background-color: rgb(250, 251, 252);"><br style="color: rgb(28, 40, 55); font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px; background-color: rgb(250, 251, 252);"><br style="color: rgb(28, 40, 55); font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px; background-color: rgb(250, 251, 252);">
  • Where can/should I get them?
  • 3 mm should still allow the wheels to be hub-centric, right?
  • Will I need extended lugs?

Wheels don't have to be "hub centric". They will center perfect on the studs. Ask anyone running almost any aftermarket wheel. As far as spacers go, I've always heard 5mm or less is fine on stock studs but I've never ran them. Hope that helps.

Yeah, I know they don't have to be hub centric, it's just a convenience (sort of). Thanks for the info on the length/thickness.

5mm is definitely too thick for stock wheel studs. 3mm has been done but is not recommended. I'd be ok with 3mm on a street driven car but not a tracked car.

To reiterate, hub centric is not necessary.

I had a local machine shape make a set of spacers for me... 1mm, 2mm, 3mm, and 5mm thick.

The minimum number of lug nut rotations recommended for a 12 x 1.5 nut is 6.5.

You can find 3mm spacers on ebay for around $25 a pair. I bought a set but haven't test fitted the stock studs yet so I don't know how many lug nut rotations I can get.

I've gotten other responses on the wheel & tire forum. Granted they're not all racers, but the few seem to say 3 is okay for sure, 5 is okay as well though he assumed I'd put the extended studs on during my next hub change (dead giveaway for a racer).

Anyway, it's no longer an issue for me now.

I went with the other offset ( + 47?) on the wheels. Tire Rack is on my way to Gingerman, so I'm just gonna drop by and exchange my wheels and tires as I've not driven on them. In the process, I return the ZII's and get BFG Rivals (I read the GRM article 4 days after I received my ZII's) AND they had the wheels I'm getting on sale for -$20 due to an unpopular color. Mine are going to end up being the color of brake dust, so yay for me!

That's definitely the better option. I didn't know they made a +47. Seems like a great wheel option.

I don't remember how many I got, I only remember it was less than 6.5.

You can read what you want on the wheel and tire section, but a 3mm spacer doesn't allow for the recommended thread engagement. The 5mm isn't even close to the minimum.
