Between Z06 and E46M3, I would pick Z06 over E46M3. E46M3 is way too heavy for a sports car. It is rather a FAST sports coupe, IMO.

Between C5 and M3? I would have to go with M3. C5 performance was stunning when it first came out but it is matched with too many cars these days. If you are going to be challenged by all kinda cars out there, mind is well, be challenged with style. I see WAY too many C5s here. WAY too many.

C5s used to be considered one of very best bang for the money cars. But this will change very soon when 03 Cobra hits the street. At 35k and knowing how mustangs are loved by americans, we can bet that we will see this monster often.

Yeah....well after checking out both the Z06 and the M3 at the NY auto show in april I must say the M3 is just a more appealing car to me. The Vette, as strong a performer as it is, did not feel right once I sat behind it. The shifter knob is typical American, just feels archaic. The interior materials are also left to be desired in a 50k car. I'm sure the driving experience makes up for that, but sitting inside this car, it's hard to imagine it costs as much as it does.

Does HUD on C5 lag like our digital dash speedometer?

BTW, you have to wait till Spring/Summer of 2004 for C6 Vette.

I'm not sure what you mean by lag...

Someone will have to find out for sure but I think the HUD refreshes every .4's or something. I forget. I hate driving my explorer since I got so used to the HUD on the C5. It's an incredible feature and there is a reason it's now on the 02 Z06's. Too many complaints that it wasn't offered on the 01's (save weight).

That was my thinking exactly, but r&d and c&d always do that. They test a performance car and declare it the loser because of interior styling or not enough trunk space, then they test a luxery car or SUV and bash it because of it's performance numbers. The only thing I can say is they are CONFUSED

[B]Great, this post is going to breed another batch of S2000 ricers out there.

I will be looking forward to reading, "Stock S2000 just took out an LS1" thread.

Now the ricers will take that 13.66 and make it sound like its a daily occurance.

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly constitutes a "Ricer?"
Is it just someone who owns a Japanese brand car? Or is it more?

Oh boy! Here we go!!

Here's my take: It's has little to do with the country of origin for a car these days. It originated with the west coast import hot-rod/race scene, dominated by Japanese cars (especially Honda Civics) in the early-mid 90s. A large number of the owners were second or third generated Asian immigrant's children, and took special pride in the common heritage between them and their cars. At the same time, it was widely known that the Japanese Domestic Market (aka "JDM") models were faster/better than those exported to the states. Those models were identified by special "type-X" designations (type-R, etc etc) and often had special exterior treatments which included clear corners, big exhaust pipes (not just tips), lowered bodies, BIG wheels, and of course, wings and stickers. There was a great desire among these import hot rodders to get access to these special "not for export" performance parts, and a great desire among the poser to appear to have these parts via external treatments. As the phenomenon grew, it spread to other ethnic and socioeconomic groups and became diluted by people with less desire to go fast and more desire to look fast.

As the saying goes "bad money chasing out the good", once the general public's imagination got hold of the whole trend, every kid with a paper route had enough money to put JDM-appearing body parts (which are cheap) on their cheap imports, yet perform no modifications to the powertrain to actually improve the performance. You started seeing posers with full race-style body kits and 115hp Civic engines inside. This gave birth to the RICER phenomenon. Then the film "Fast and Furious" hit theatres and the dam broke. Suddenly, you were seeing special "type-R" Kias, slammed $5000 Cavaliers with $2000 wheels and $2000 stereos, and even Ford Foci with Japanese lettering on the side. "Riced-out" generally refers to any small cheap car (though usually from east Asia) with lots of tacky JDM-inspired cheap bolt-on crap, but little in the way of performance modifications. A "Ricer" is anybody who aspires to this frame of mind. It has it's origins in a racist backlash against the west coast import race scene, but these days it's become so overcoded that it has little to do with the far east.

It's really no different from the mullet-headed knuckle-dragging F-body owners in the midwest where I grew up. They'd jack up their cars, put slicks on the rear, a pair of cherry bomb glasspacks on the pipes, and a handful of sponsor stickers on the door. We called them "rednecks".
