Early 90's V12 were not fast at all, at least not for the BMW 850CSI. It was V12 and really slow; 15+ seconds in 1/4, but more like 16 secs. Would you take that over an NSX when they were both in production? Hell no for me!
Correct me if I'm wrong but those ran low 14s. The 840's were 15 second cars. The 850CSi is a sweet ass car~!

only a low 14 sec car? well that sucks..but up high speed is where they really shine??

Indeed. They (850CSi) had the torque to play with the big boys (F512M) on the autobahn. They topped out in the 180mph range.

My friend has a late 90's 750iL (got it brand new when he was 19!). The car felt sluggish from start, but could surprised LS1 Z28s on the freeway.
