It IS a downgrade. Finicky top, useless trunk, lower grade plastics in the interior, soggy chassis dynamics in comparison to the S2000, a fraction of the driving experience, and even with 260hp and 260lbft of torque, it still can't quite beat the S through the quarter.

Best times I've seen for the Redline/GXP twins has been low 14s. An S2000 with Batman behind the wheel will post a high 13, inspite of being down 20hp, and ~100 lb.ft Part of the reason is that the Redline/GXP twins weight in at ~250lbs more than the S2000.
S2k has a crappy top that cracks and breaks within 3 years. The plastics in the s2k aren't that great, don't kid yourself. The s2k has a harder chassis that makes normal driving unbearable after one hour. S2k also costs more than a redline sky. Arguments can be made that the s2k is a downgrade.

Just because you wouldn't have the car, doesn't mean the s2k is better. Better for you maybe, but not for everyone.

I could care less about quarter mile times. I'm not 16 anymore.

I have a Vortech on stock boost in my S and i'll put a hurtin' on a stock STI.

and your point is?

stock for stock the S will pull on any N/A 4 banger.

the Z,STI,Evo,etc.... are in a different class.it's amazing how the S can even keep up with these cars.

peace
how is a Z, STI or evo in a different class? what are you comparing the s2k to? a miata?

I have no idea what the point of your vortech statement is. I am glad you spent a bunch of money on FI and are still probably slower than a stock C6.

The Z is a V6 GT.the STI,EVo are Turbo'ed.The S is a N/A 4 banger roadster.the Vette is twice the cost of a S.

You Sir have no idea about cars i see.just because it has an engine and four wheels doesn't MEAN it's all the same.

what i'm trying to say is compare apples to apples not apples to oranges.if the OP raced a turbo car in his N/A car he did very well is what i'm trying to say.

peace

So all that makes up a car is its engine? because that is how you compared the Z, STI and evo to the S. If all you want to compare is NA engine and chassis, the s2k is a pile of crap compared to an elise... But I assume you would want to compare other characteristics, which would more closely align the s2k to things like the Z.

Vette starts at ~44k. Your s2k cost ~33k plus you added the FI and probably a host of other parts which cost you ~7k and add about 5k for install and you have the price of a vette.

Thanks for the insults re: me knowing nothing regarding cars. It takes a very intelligent person to resort to put-downs.

Crappy top that cracks after 3 years? Really? Tell that to my 01, with the stock soft top. Oh yeah, and it's in excellent condition.

The plastics in the S2K? There's hardly any plastic in the S2K. At least in mine, the majority of the interior pieces are made of leather and/or vinyl.

And about the price difference? Good luck finding a Redline anywhere near MSRP. Expect to pay around $32k for one, after you have to wait at least a year to get one.

Am I bashing the Sky? No, it's a nice looking car, and a step in the right direction for GM.

ON TOPIC, nice kill.

GM quality has seen a dramatic increase over the last five years. I work in the auto parts industry selling AC Delco parts directly to GM dealers. I have seen my sales decline as a direct result of the lack of warranty repair that occurs in these dealers. The inherent problems GM cars had are a thing of the past and quality has shot through the roof. No more head gaskets, alternators, starters, ac compressors, wheel bearings. Drivability problems are also way, way down. Imports still have the nod in the fit and finish department, but GM is fast approaching the same standrds as the imports in reliability and cost per mile repair ratio. Its no joke, they are getting better. They had to in order to compete or they would have ceased to exist. Consumers are far too savvy these days and brand loyalty is becoming a thing of the past. People that say GM's are still a pos are either kidding themselves or are just plain speaking on something they know nothing about.
