Default Boxster fun....

I just found about this site earlier this week and have found some very interesting reading. I figured it was time for me to add my own exoerience to the board as well. First, I own a yellow S2000 that I got back in March. Enough about that, on to the fun now.

A couple of weeks ago I was driving with the wife and we had just made a right turn onto a four lane road here in Richmond. I had not yet noticed the red boxster which was three cars behind me. After he came through the turn, he punched it. As soon as I caught onto this, I punched my S2000 as well. We ran pretty much neck and neck for the entire run, about 3 miles at speeds up to 115mph in a 55mph zone. I felt pretty good just how easily I could keep up with him. Considering he easily paid another $20,000 for his ride. We met at a red light and exchanged greetings and headed on our way.

Has anyone raced with a Boxster from a dead stop? If so, let me know about it. Thanks.

I've raced an S2000 from a dead stop and my Boxster S was faster, from a rolling start at different miles per hour it can be pretty close, I would have thought that a regular boxster you would have crept away from.

And although we might pay more for our Boxsters, remember there is more to a car than straight line speed on public streets. Don't forget, I've got seat heaters!

I've got some pics of my Speed Yellow Boxster S and a Spa Yellow S2000 (with Neuspeed exhaust, and a video) belonging to a friend at the follow web page:

One thing I forgot to add to my original post. His car was a Boxster S. That is why I was suprised that I did keep up with him. I have read several articles that claim the Boxster S is slightly faster that the S2000.

Thanks for the pics, but those yellow seat belts scream "loser."

I've raced two BSs. Both times I pulled ahead by half-a-car up to 120.

Too close to call. BS has got more torque, but the S2000 can be driven to be just as fast if not faster than the BS. Comes down to driver skills.

I like your yellow Boxter S. If I had $extra $15,000, I would have bought your car.

DUDE! I don't like boxters at all...I think they are generic porshes that people only buy cause of the name and they can afford them a lil easier than other Porshes....But yours is the Shitnik! Maybe not the seat belt, but the custon interior pain job and those sexy floor mats. I dig your car...Hell I dig both of your cars

Well I'm sorry someone doesn't like my yellow seat belts, but they came with the car and are a Porsche factory option. I like the combo of Yellow/Black (Pre 70's many high performance car parts were labeled with yellow and black emblems or decals, it became known that if something was yellow/black it was "high performance", but I digress) so for me I liked the seat belts. I certainly don't look at something on your car and scream "LOSER" because I don't like it, I just figure, "Hey, to each their own".

As for the centered console also painted Speed Yellow, that is a factory option as well and most folks agree that it adds to the looks of the car, but again, to each their own. Again, I like it, and *I* bought the car.

Also for the remark that Boxsters are purchased by people who can't afford the 996 or other Porsche models that is pure rubbish. I've driven a 911 Cab and I honestly think the Boxster is more "fun" to drive for me. I'm not denegrating the 911 Cab, it is a great car, but I chose the car I wanted and the Boxster S in the combo I got is what I wanted. I could have bought nearly any Porsche.

Are Porsches priced higher for what you get? Yeah probably in some ways, take for example that center painted console, it is nearly an $800 option, the seatbelts are $350. Do those parts cost anywhere near that amount to produce? No, not at all. But this isn't any different than Toyota charging $500 more for the same radio/cd player in the MR2 Spyder than in the Tacoma, exact same unit, just different car.

The point is, get what you like, which is what I did until the car pictured below comes out. Actually I checked the other day with the Ferrari dealer in Denver and they expect to get 2 F-60's and they already have deposits for 4! So I am SOL there. Ugh.

BTW, I can appreciate a lot of things about the S2000 and you don't see me here bashing it even if I do see some things that people do to it that just scream "Rice Boy". Next time maybe a response with "Dude I don't like those seat belts at all" is a bit more tactiful than implying that someone with them is a "Loser".

I'm going to try to attend the next local S2000 meet just to say "Hi" to a couple of folks and show them my Invinca-shield in case they might want to get it to protect their cars.

BTW, I concur that in a race, the driver makes a lot of difference the Boxster S and the S2000 are very close in performance.

Thanks!

Nice car S2Ken:
The only thing that i really dislike about the Boxster is the exhaust. I guess it's kidda different, i would prefer a dual tip.

Are they not requiring ferrari credit for the F60? All the dealers here required ferrari credit to get an F50 so I assumed it would be that way with the F60.

Also, on top of that, you had to lease it for 2 years before you could buy it, just so people wouldn't turn around and sell it right away for a profit. That was a problem.

It's going to be an amazing car. I've heard it's going to be their first 7 figure car

Nice to have you on the board va_john!

Speaking as someone who lives in your area, please try to keep the 115's in the 55's to a minimum!

Do you end up on Broad in the West End at any time? I've seen a yellow around occationally, but never when I'm on the road; always when I'm staring out the window at work.
