Glad you like it Otto-man! If you think about it, in say 100 years if someone were to dig out this message forum and read how people used to waste something called gasoline in something called a car trying to prove something, it's bound to look pretty funny. That sort of reminds me of a song....

"down in his barn my uncle preserved for me an old machine - for fifty odd years, to keep it as new has been his dearest dream. I strip away the old debris that hides the shining car, A brilliant red Barchetta from a better vanished time...."

I thought this thread died along time ago. We are on the third page of this. Everytime I think I am out they pullllllllll me back in. yes there are positives and negatives to mid engine cars. one positive being tranny is closer to diff and drive wheels. As for porsche making a more efficient tranny i dont know. I would have to read what experts have to say. sorry no offense s2ken but i dont consider you an expert just because you own a boxster so I will do some research and see what i find

You're right, they keep pulling me back in.... which episode was that? You are right, I am not a Porsche "expert", but rather an enthusiast, so I don't pretend to know all things Porsche. I guess we could get a Porsche engineer on the phone to talk about the efficiencies of the transmission, but I think you said someone from Porsche would be bias. I don't think your standard Motor Trend, Car & Driver or other magazine author knows squat about the engineering differnces in a transmission or gear box. In fact I don't think car magazine tests are worth much at all other than to state what occurred on a particular day with a particular car and a particular driver. I can absolutely guarantee you that your actual results will vary from the magazine. For example, maybe my tranny has some metal burrs inside the casing that are restricting fluid flow because some guy on the assembly line had one too many St. Pauli's the night before, maybe my tranny sucks, or maybe I suck as a driver. So while magazines make interesting reading, they shouldn't ever be mistaken for "reality" as applied to your own situation. If you get some specs on the Boxster tranny let me know, it would also be interesting to see what the theoretical physical maximums would be in power transfer by various means, whether viscous couplings are used, or different types of gears etc. You'll probably need some very hard core slide rule guys though with nothing better to do with their time than educate us...

BTW, what is the towing capacity of the S2000?

if magazines are not for real facts.. what is .. a boxster owner on a s2000 site telling people he has heard a boxster tranny is more efficient then others. here say. inadmissible I realize that magazines are not perfect but they are our best source of info on comparisons of cars since any company will hype there own car with so called independent tests. I understand your reluctance to accept magazine facts since they are quite the opposite of what you claim

Aha! A direct question. Here's a direct answer: According to the owner's manual, it is not recommended to tow anything with the S2000. What is the recommendation for a Boxster/Boxter S?

And some additional data: Da'Lon makes a hitch for the S2000 that works very well, and many enthusiasts use their S2000 to pull small, lightweight track trailers or PWC trailers that weigh less than 500 lbs loaded.

The Boxster has an optional towing package, the tow pieces attach at the back of the car where the US gets "bumperettes", but I don't know what the towing capacity is, I'll have to check that one, hmmmm maybe some magazine will tell me since it is bound to be more accurate than my owners manual, right T-bone? BTW, I am unaware of any magazine that has rated the efficiency of the S2000 tranny or the Boxster tranny for that matter. I base my statements on what the 911 race car drivers have said about the tranny, the 911 tranny and the Boxster S tranny are the same. Maybe race car drivers don't know their stuff either...

I'll see if I can find the towing capacity, I was just curious if it was mentioned or offered on the S2000 with it's lower torque. I wouldn't think you'd want to hook up a heavy trailer, rev to 8K and then dump the clutch, somehow I imagine that would be bad, very bad... Hauling light stuff like extra track tires on a small trailer is probably fine though... I would guess anyway, I'm no expert...
