Default C43 benz vs stook

I pretty much got killed by a C43, don't want to go into details but I made lots of mistakes like not shifting to 2nd when I was doing 40 mph and shifting gears at 7k rpms, anyone know about these C43 benzs? they are really nice I love german cars but if I run into the same guy what should i do? any tips would help since I'm a newbie to driving a stick too heh

C43 - mid 14s. 14.4 recorded by a couple of magazines.

Just get good at shifting quick I guess and know how to launch your car if it's a stop. Also stay in VTEC when racing.

We were both at the light and it was red, when it turned green he took a 1-2 length lead, I had no clue how to launch my car so I took off without launching and I mishifted and made 2nd gear grind lol then he left me in 3-4 lengths then I took a left turn.
I've practiced since then, raced a couple sport bikes who were toying with me of course.

I have a '98 C43 AMG, 300+ HP and 300+ ft/lbs from the AMG handmade V-8 in the [relatively] light C body [thus my screen name]. Prior to the E55 coming out, the C43 was the fastest M-B sent to North America -- now the supercharged V-6 C32 and SLK32.

AMG cars are quite rare (M-B used to only send 500 a year to North America, tho that is increasing as the AMG lineup has broadened in recent years) -- but there are a fair number of fake AMG badges on normal M-B's, esp by poseurs who just get AMG wheels or a body kit -- wheels alone do not an AMG make, see: http://www.s2000online.com/forums/s...ghlight=C43+AMG

The AMG cars come only in automatic -- in my car and the older E55s, the "thinking" 5-speed from the V-12 600 series, tweaked by AMG -- but the new AMG cars have a "speedshift" function that is quite quick. The C43 will outrun with any automatic of its vintage (M3, tiptronic Porsche, etc.) and is not far behind the manuals (just as the E55 will do with the M5). Although the '98 M-3 is a bit quicker and more agile, the C43 is much more luxurious and durable, plus the sound of the V-8 is wonderful.

Would it have been better with a manual -- sure, but for normal freeway and in-town cut-and-thrust, it is a great car -- able to creep along in stop and go traffic without hassle, or instantly hit a hole without worrying what gear you're in, where the revs are or whether the A/C is on.

S2000s should be able to take a C43 stock for stock, you need to practice launching and shifting....why shift at 7grand? This is your car's sweetest spot, let it run till you see the red lights appear on the tach then bang the shift!

The C43 AMG is a torque monster... My borther-in-law used to own one, and I drove it frequently. the car is amazingly fast on the freeway, and once again once you are past 80 mph, it keeps pulling and pulling... 4.3L V8 in a small C-Class.... That's a hot-rod!

I think that it would be very hard for an S2k to keep up on the freeway... the 1/4 mile of 14.4 for the AMG does not do justice to the car. The car flies!

I still prefer my S2K (altough it would be nice to own a C43 as a daily driver)
