I own a TL Type-S, which has very similar numbers to the CL. I can tell you that the S2000 can take this car. I had my friend race me, and he lost. He's actually a better driver than me...but keep in mind that there's very little one can do in a CL/TL-S to get a better time. The car is an automatic, with the "auto-stick" functionality. Really, that doesn't add much, though.

Anyway, I'm convinced that either the CL-S you raced is modified in some way, or it might be that he/she had enough forward momentum going that it would have been hard for you to pass. You said that you weren't trying to race until you saw that the other driver was doing so. That lag time can make a difference.

at a higher speeds the higher HP and more slippery shape of the type-s should give it an advantage. At lower speeds the (like from a launch) RWD and a lighter weight should give the S2k an advantage. HP is HP at higher speeds....the biggest difference at speeds over 100 might just be the coefficent of drag which should be in the type-s's favor. FWD is more efficent in term of drivetrain losses so he will be putting down a greater percentage of his HP to the front tires....and once you are moving in a straight line...FWD, RWD it doesn't matter that much. RWD is a huge advantage in launching and has different dynamics in cornering.

I've raced my buddy's S2000 with my TL-S, and they were really close. Our races have been very short lived...2nd and 3rd gear, but I was pretty impressed with the TL-S. I know he would pull on me from a stand still though. I've actually raced a 98 Mustang once from about 50-100, and won by a hood length. I only ran to 100 because 4th gear is an over drive gear, and you really loose power in that gear. Anyway, the TL-S, and CL-S are pretty impressive up to 100 for a family car.
