I've raced vipers before (my friend used to have an 02 GTS) and depending on what part of the powerband that car is in, I could hang with him for a quite a bit and then he'll start to walk as his car hits its powerband.

Now, 55mph puts me close to my peak power point in 2nd gear. When I downshifted, it was straight to powerband and it stayed there in 3rd. 65-110 is not very much room to run and let that E55 stretch her legs.

I ran a 328 bmw last night and he took off of on me. didn't even know we were racing. I finall got on it and by the top of 2nd, I was just starting to walk past him, and I shut it down as soon as i realized he wasn't coming back.

Maybe the E55 did that, but it didn't sound like it. I've beaten the 350hp E55s before.

E55's run low-mid 12s right? I ran a 13.0 up in gainesville and a 13.2 down here...1 1/2 to 2 cars in a little 65-110 spring sounds about right to me...

I love the new E55, I just can't see how the new M5 will be able to beat it with anything less than 550 hp, not the claimed 500 hp.
(Warning: BMW bias )
The new M5 will own the e55. hell, the old M5 owned the old e55.

There is over 200 hp difference between a 2003 E55 and an old NSX! There is no way in hell you're gonna keep up. Period, end of story, please drive through. You may have hung with your buddy's Viper when he was in 4th going 60 mph, but there is no way you're gonna be able to play when it is driven properly. The new E55 has ~100 more hp than a 2002 GTS. So whadya say? Was it possibly an older E55, or was the 2003 E55 guy just driving conservatively and you were going balls-to-the-wall and making no headway? Unless your car came with a blue cape, it was one or the other.

HP isn't everything, weight, gearing, and aerodynamics all come into play. For instance, the 650 HP lingenfelter vette can blow the doors off of the nearly 1000 HP vipers in top speed, because it has better aerodynamics; pure horsepower is just one consideration, and the big one is that the E55 Carries more than Half a ton more weight than the NSX.

Are all E55's AMG's? Other models have the regular (ie c32 vs C32 amg) and then the AMG upgrade. Anyone know?

All E55s are AMGs, as are all C32s.

The C320 is not an AMG - the C32 is. You can't get a C32 that is not an AMG.
