e36 and e46 m3's are TOTALLY different machines. about 240hp (i believe) compared to 333hp, about a 93 difference in HP if i was corrent about the e36's M3's power. but hey, cant lose in vtec

It has 330hp at 3781 pounds (the hard top I raced might have been heavier) compared to the S2000's 240hp at 2800lbs.
If you meant the car you "raced" was a COUPE by saying "hard top," then it would be LIGHTER than the convertible version...not heavier. In fact, 3781 sounds more like the weight of the convertible. Take away about 400lb for the weight of a M3 coupe. And yes, the vert version of M3 is slower than the coupe version.

Also, one correction on the link provided...The rated 333 hp is at the crank not at the wheels.

That's much more significant but still explains the encounter within reason.
Sure within, what the hell, give or take about 12.7% .

It takes at least a base supercharger kit on an S just to keep up with an E46 M3. Just cuz the guy has the power doesn't mean he was using it... He was probably cruising away from you partial throttle, I do it all the time and people think I'm racing

A stock S runs high 13s 1/4 mile at best, a stock E46 M3 auto runs about mid 13s (manual is closer to low 13s). And that car has WAY more low end torque and power than an S. There is no way you'd keep up with an E46 M3 off the line unless you launched your car.

i make more whp thant the average s2, and when i race my nieghbor in his 03 E46 from a dig its interesting. if i launch hard i can hang with him in first and second, but once i hit third hes gone 2-3 cars and it just get worse as the speeds increase. from hwy rolls, i get pimp slapped! oh, well i dont mind looking at that ass as it passes me by!

When I was stock I ran two E46 M3's and got spanked both times. Once was on the highway from about 70mph, and I got killed. The other was from a light from about 10mph, and by the end of 2nd he was able to cut me off.

E46 definately would def put a hurtin on a s2k. I have a friend with a E46 pulled on a stock comptech SC S2k.. He was stock. Lets not forget you were behind him though. He was taking all the wind resistance, makes a decent difference.

But who cares, it was fun right.

Thats all that matters...

If this one single encounter was fun then great ... We're not trying to ruin your fun, we're just trying to tell you the facts so you don't get a rude awakening some day. Don't want you to be all cocky to some M3 owner thinking its a driver's race...and then end up getting your ass handed to you.

Btw, in case it wasn't clear I was talking to the creator of this thread... not the person I quoted
