Default Mazda6

On the way home tonight a blue Mazda6 was coming up from behind. Obviously driving faster than me so I moved off the left lane to let him pass. Once he passed about a car or two length ahead he slowed down to my speed. I don't get why people slow down to your speed once they pass you? Anyway the exhaust I saw was either an aftermarket dual exhaust with a silencer, or stock, because it wasn't loud at all. It did seem a little big for a stock exhaust though, so it probably could have even been a Mazdaspeed6?

He cruised along at 55 then all of a sudden went up to 65, then 70. I was behind a few buslengths so I was like what the heck, I haven't done a highway run yet. I followed behind keeping about a buslength the whole time. When we approached the mile long 1-2% incline, he opened up, and I followed suit. Shifted down to 4th at 65 (I know I could've done 3rd but wasn't sure of the RPMs at that gear, and didn't want to stress the pistons) and I was slowly creeping up. I was actually wondering if he was going WOT because I was still reeling him in. By the time we got to the top of the hill I was literally tailgating him, but had to turn off to my exit. I wasn't thinking anything about it being the speed version at the time so I didn't pay attention to the emblem, but I could've found out there.

Ahhhhh...... it's times like these that make me want to have a radar detector. I would have just kept going.

Just for info...

In 4th at 65 you were 10mph away from vtec. In 3rd you would've been at the meat of your powerband. Third will reel out until 90ish in the AP1 so if you had shifted into third you would've caught up much quicker.

89 i believe. second gear goes to almost 60. had this been an actual race you would have lost to a mazda for quite a stroke.

Ap1 w/ stock tranny and final drive should hit 90.6 mph at 8900 RPM.
