Old school bodystyle 86ish vintage. Bummed I was with my wife who started to get squeemish right when the car was hitting its stride. Heading north on 880/17 just past 280. I'm cruising along 75-80ish, minding my own business. The Mustang was in my lane probably doing 70, so I move left one lane and keep going noticing the passenger pointing and the driver rubbernecking as I go by. Not sure about you guys, but when I pass a Mustang/Camaro with booming exhaust going slow on an expressway its pretty obvious to me they are hunting, so I knew it would be on.

Told the little lady to hold on, downshift to fourth (I know, I know. Could have gone into third. I need to ease the wife into ragging on the car). He gets next to me, I hear him downshift, see his car lurch, we exchange the look and it's on. Dead even until about 7.5K in fourth when I start to pull slowly but consistently. Ran it up to redline in fourth and for a few seconds in fifth when I could see the wife getting uneasy as we approach traffic. That and I knew a lecture was coming. I put about 1.5 lengths when I shut it down. Got the "if you ever get a ticket going that fast........" lecture. "Yes dear, you're right."

Not sure what speed I shut down at, but I imagine in the 110 to 120 range. I give props to Wes and all you others that provide ungodly amounts of detail. My eyes were glued to upcoming traffic, the tach and the guy next to me. All in all a nice race. He must have been pretty cool because I didn't get the usual fly by.

There was a newer 96ish GT that saw us run and wanted to play, but I'm a one lecture a night kind of guy.

You would have got one more car length if you downshifted to 3rd. Good kill anyway.
