I know you guys are thinking, not much of a race but here's the thing. We were at a stop light, he was in the far left lane and myself in the far right with an SUV in between us. I couldn't tell what he was doing so I had no intention of launching. The light turns green and I see the little black SLK jump out a couple of lengths so I double clutch and lerch forward to pull about half a car or so. I hit second and from there I continued to pull away but I was impressed with how slowly he fell behind. I think he would beat a stock Mustang GT (not the new 260 hp) without much problem, at least down low. I don't know how easy it is to adjust the boost in those things but his sure seemed exceptionally fast, not quite fast enough though.

I think it was probably a good race, better than those storys of S2k racing GT3 and 911 Turbos

derryck I have a SLK 230 and it is pretty quick off the line. You can get a good lanch because it has ESP (traction control) so even if a person does not know how to drive they can get a good start. The car uses a Eaton twin screw supercharger which also helps on the lower end. But as soon as you hit mid range power the S2000 will pull away from the car.

EATON makes good superchargers, was tempted to buying an SLK once because of that. But found out that it ultimately does not have much performance and handling compared to an S2K.

TKM you are right, I don't put this car in the same class as the S2000. Mercedes Benz does not make sports cars they make luxury cars. Good for driving everyday but not much of a driving excitement.

You mean 320, right? I drove my bosses 230 and I found it slow. I really wanted one in the begining. I'm so happy I didn't go that direction.
Of course the SLK is slow if u compare the SLK 230 with the stook, M roadster or the Boxster..

I drove a 230 a couple of years before getting my S2K. I thought it to be a nice boulevard cruiser; the top was a hoot, but it was no sportscar, at least not what I was expecting. At 48K it was no bargain, either.
