Yeah I understandn But i'm not even talking about highly modified time attack cars. I'm just thinking a geared, bolt on s2k with a tune, nonstagger 255 all around on lightweight rims with a hardtop + soft top delete + weight reduction and new suspension would mop up a 350z with equivalent supporting mods. The s2k just seems like it gets better gains from all of that vs what a 350z would gain. I'd be curious to see how amateur racers with those mods fare on different tracks. That's a realistic comparison, professional time attack cars is totallt different.
tldr; lower weight, higher powered s2k with suspension etc > 350z with equivalent modifications?
HR is a totally different beast because its beyond what a fully modded early 350z engine can do.

perhaps if your refering to an early 350z. The s2k was an equal.
unfortunatly the 350z over time grew as a car and was given significant improvments to its performance, where the s2k stayed pretty much the same.
with the HR and 370 its really no longer a contest stock to stock, the 350z just has much more power and although the s2k can show its teeth in the corners and shows an obvious advantage its not enough to put down faster lap times and has been proven time and time again.
Saw a video of an 08 CR vs a 08 HR 350 and even with aero the s2k still lost, but wow did it do a killer job in the corners. S2k really needed more power to stay competitive but Honda just didnt deliver.
My earlier post asked about the vert because people love to compare the 350z coupe vs the s2k, but forget the 350z also comes as a vert (which is significantly slower). So i say compare apples to apples, and compare vert to vert, and i bet the S2k will fair much better especially against the 350z vert, the 370z has a huge bump in power so it wouldnt surprise me if the 370 vert still won.
Of course when you get into highly modified time attack cars its a whole different ball game.

You lost to the ugliest car on the face of the earth...nice death
To the discussion on Z vs S, they're entirely different cars, built for different purposes. Without substantial modding, the Z will clean up the S on any course that requires power.
The old 350z runs the Nurburgring something like 13 seconds faster than the S, and I think the 370z knocks quite a bit more off of that.
It doesn't handle nearly as nicely as the S, but there is torque EVERYWHERE in the powerband, which makes a huge difference on a road course.
The drag race in the OP sounds about right though. The 370z's aren't terribly fast in a straight line, and a few mods on the S should be right up there with it, and it's possible to be faster from a dig.
I think both the coupe and convertible 370 is ugly. Thats just my opinion. They look like they are feet off the ground and are too short and stubby looking. They do sound sweet though.
The 370 rides about as low as anything can with modern safety regulations. The S woulda have needed to get jacked up if the kept producing it.
As far as the sound, the engine in the 370z is one of the worst sounding engines I've ever run.
I like the way the z looks in any form. I can think of much uglier cars. I really hate comparing modded cars to modded cars. Doesn't matter how much money or what was done to the car. It really does depend on the tuner of the car.
