SC S2000 vs Firebird / Eclipse...
Nothing very exciting happened this weekend. In fact, the highlight was probably watching 6 modified Vipers pull out of the parking lot and take of down the street. But, if I didn't post something, people will wonder if I sold my car.
Firebird
I was heading out to the Houstook's weekly dinner when I saw a white Firebird pulling out of one of those makeshift lines of For Sale cars that you sometimes see on the side of the road. I watched the guy in my rearview, expecting him to come after me. Surely enough, I see him coming up behind me, weaving in and out of traffic to catch up to me. I'm not sure what year the firebird was, but it's not the newer ones with the honey comb rear lights, he had solid colored lights. It's whichever model comes with a purple neon light in the dash that flickers on and off as you hit bumps in the road. Whichever model that is, that's what it was.
He followed me for a few miles as we gingerly moved inbetween traffic. He ended up in front of me, and I was following him for a while. We stopped at a light with a few cars in front of us. As the light turned green, we navigated through and past the traffic. I was just following the guy, shadowing him, letting him know that I was gonna take him. As we passed the front cars, I matched his acceleration. I quickly had to push the pedal on the ground to do match his speed. I'm floored in 3rd at 60, VTEC hits...and his back bumper is coming up quick on me. I pulled into the left lane and shifted into 4th at redline. 4th gear, my nose is at his bumper...it only took half the gear to put me in front of his car. I pulled off at 100, with 2 car-lengths or so of lead.
Eclipse
This car is nothing to look at. It's one of the first gen Eclipses, and it's not been taken care of. I had seen the guy rolling through the local hang out earlier in the night, gunning it around the parking lot so that you could hear his lack of exhaust. I had no interest in the car, but he put himself in a situation to be owned. I was crusing on my way home, and came upon a group of about 7 modified imports. I had slid to the front of the group, no one had challanged me...but then I get beside the Eclipse. I'm in the right-hand lane, I've got a Corolla in front of me, keeping me from passing the Eclipse. This dude decides to punch it next to me, and let off, and punch it, and let off...and again. What the heck is he expecting me to do? Am I supposed to floor it and ram the car in front of me? What an idiot. I just sat there, doing nothing in response. After about the 4th time he did this, I just blipped the throttle so that he knew I wasn't ignoring his challange. I said outloud to myself, "If you move over a lane I'll run you, you idiot." Maybe he read my lips, because he ended up moving over a lane. Since I was watching him, I was able to move in sequence into his lane as he was moving into the left-hand lane.
I shifted into 2nd at about 55, blipped the throttle to get the flywheel moving, and to say "Let's go". We both jammed on it. 2nd gear propelled me to a car-length lead, half of 3rd got me another car and I shut down, a 1.5 gear race. The guy shut down too, and didn't do any sort of ricer fly by. We both went right back to maintaining the speed limit, and went our own ways.

Wes, you're doing a great misrepresentation of S2000's by racing every weekend. Next time these guys that had raced you before, see another S2000, they will be like... damn! those little Hondas are fasst.
