I met up with some of the local VW club last night. A race was set up for me against a decently modded GTI. I didn't know what all he had, but I had some ideas. Chip, downpipe and NOS were my expectations. We had 4 runs.

First run:
We were cruising at 40 and went on the 3rd honk, through 1st gear he stayed with me...then I started to walk. I had 3 or so car lengths by 100ish.

Second run:
After explaining that he was having "technical difficulties" we ran again...this time from 30 MPH...same result.

Third run:
After pulling over to mess with his NOS, we were ready to go. I told him to just floor it when he was ready and I would chase. We started at 20 MPH. He floored it, put 3 car lengths on me through 2nd gear and kept them after that. I got smoked.

Fourth run:
I was happy with the loss...his car took off...but he asked if I wanted to go again. I agreed, but asked if we could switch it up. Go at 30 MPH and I get the punch. He agreed to it. So we rolled out, got to 30 MPH and I flashed my lights before flooring it. I jumped out a car-length pretty quick...but that's all I could get. He hung there through 4th gear...couldn't lose him.

The car was pretty quick on the NOS...probably high 12's with the way it should be able to get out of the hole.

 

Sounds like a great race. I've seen some pretty fast modded Golfs..especially the 1.8T's.

 

good race, there are some real fast gti's out there

 

We've got three APR Stage III GTI/Golf's here in Houston...they're pretty quick (probably faster than me with the new software they're running). This was the quickest non-Stage III I've run. Off the bottle he'd probably give a NA S2000 some trouble, if not more.
