I have known more people to switch engines in "American" cars than in imports.
Modern domestic cars? Or are you talking about the 60's muscle cars swapping for modern LS1's or 4.6 mod's?

Honestly, I can't think of anyone i know that's swapped the motor on a modern domestic. By contrast, every FWD Honda owner out there is saving for an Integra motor.... N/A RX-7's swapping for the FD turbo'ed 13b or Cosmo 20B, etc....

The trans am is a great car to race. They sound very intimidating, but once off the line they seem to hang back a couple of car lengths up until a little over a 1/4 mile, then they seem to be on your ass for as long as you can go.

if you have a s/c s id hope to god it would beat a ls1 t/a... i raced one with my stock s and he had mods and drag radials... i sat on his back bumper in the 1/8th mile and he was about a car and a half to two cars ahead of me in the 1/4 and he absolutely killed me outta the whole... so if you arent killing LS1's then something is wrong with your car

You raced a modified LS1 T/A with DR's against your stock S2000 and you hung at his bumper until the 1/8 AFTER he killed you out of the "whole"? Even assuming it WERE possible for a stock S to hang with a modified T/A on DR's, there's no way you'd still be on his bumper at the 1/8 if he killed you out of the "whole". Saying he "killed" you would imply that he was more than a car length on you at the 60'. Your story contradicts itself!

Please tell me you don't actually believe this happened...

he got the wholeshot... and personally i could care less if you believe me or not... you werent there... ever happened to think that maybe im a better driver than he was? but it was an automatic for one and they only rev to like what 6k maybe... modified meant flowmasters and coilover suspension... maybe just because you are the weaker link in s2k driving and you couldnt hang doesnt mean i cant... a 98 t/a with ls1 is in the 13's 1/4 mile time and hey guess what alot of people are running 13's in stock s2k's...

s2knikko, LS1s do run in the 13s but on average it's the mid-low 13s (with a very few in the high 12s) vice mid-low 14s and a very few in the high 13s for the s2k. However, the LS1 engines do seem to vary quite a bit from the factory (pushing anywhere from 270 to 310rwhp, stock) so while plausible, your race should not be construed as indicative of the general performance envelope of LS1 powered cars as you seem to be implying. In general a supercharged s2k will edge out a well driven LS1 but not by much, and if you're stock most LS1s will have no problem with you. You seem to have run into a particularly weak car (I don't see how you could claim to be a better driver than him if he got the holeshot and has an automatic... the driver is out of the equation).

To the original poster, it would be interesting to know if it was an automatic or not... they tend to fall on their faces around 95-100 or so, but I guess there's no way of knowing for sure.

I believe it's possible s2knikko, I too have raced the FB and wasted it for the first 1/4 and then a car length at a 1/2. It seems alot people find it hard to belive, but maybe they need to take their car in for a tune up and they might be able to swallow it a little better
