5.8s!!! Wow. Did you get any info on how/where it was run? I seem to have some traction limitations even for a 6.5s There is a lot of dust&sand on the roads here...

Both articles are in German and my German is pretty poor. Though, usual practice is to just rev the bugger out of it and drop the cluth. If you have a grippy enough surface then you'll transer most of that energy to forward momentum and get a 'good' time. Though, for the 'runs' we did (and on the road we picked), we found that dropping the clutch over 7,500rpm did not show any gains in times and actually saw us loosing some time as we were stuch in wheelspin for too long. 7,000 - 7,500rpm clutch drops were producing the best (and very consistent) results.

Just scanned over the articles and I don't seem to see anything that mentions the 'launch'. One article is Autorevue Jan 2000 and the other is Auto-Illustrate March 2000 .... though, the time in this one 5.9 and not 5.8 as I previously mentioned. Autorevue managed 5.8 though .... interestingly enough in October 1999 they could not do any better than 6.9 for the 0-100kph.

ps. How do you measure your 'times'? The runs we did were measured with G-tech.

I'm also using a G-TechPro. It seems to have a bad rep on the net, but I feel its reasonably accurate. You do need to calibrate it just right every time though.

My best results are also from 7000rpm clutch drops, never tried any higher rpms because even 7k gives me a lot of wheelspin. Lower rpms on the other hand tend to bog.

Here's a little trick I learned (it takes a little practice but seems to work). I get my best launches when I "pat" the throttle (keep revving it briefly until the revs get up) up to about 8000 rpm or so. After the final pat, just as the rpm is falling and your foot is coming off the gas release the clutch at the same time, then immediately get back into the gas. The decreasing rpm reduces wheelspin, however the engine is spun up enough to generate horsepower after the first 3 feet or so, it's almost like doing a 7000 rpm rolling start.
