Default 0-30mph GREAT but what happens after that?

I was looking at the C&D article and noticed our 0-30 was tops so I wanted to see what cars were better and what cars were worse.

I know 0-30 is not as big a deal as 0-100 and the S2000 is worse the faster it gets. Anyway I looked at some of my old magazines and here's what I found: (note these are only sample times so I'm sorry don't flame me if the cars have faster times).

There's no good way to set tabs on this screen so I'll have to do it like this:
(0-30)(0-60)(1/4 mile@mph)-car all times in seconds:

(1.9)(5.3)(14@99)Z4 3.0
(1.9)(4.5)(12.9@111)SVT cobra
(1.8)(4.6)(13@110) 01 Z06
(1.8)(5.4)(14@99)S2000
(1.7)(3.9)(12.1@121) Viper SRT
(1.7)(4.7)(13.3@106)M3
(1.4)(4.0)(12.4@115)911 tt

Anyway it seems if you do a crazy launch you can hang with a few fast cars. Of course this means we are getting killed in the 30-60 and 30-100 times. Oh well you can't win them all.

Why is the S2000 a great starter but a poor finisher???

I think it's our gearing? We don't need to shift until 43 miles per hour.

Poor finish? At 30MPH the VTEC kicks-in. It is there that the power really comes. (Of course C&D did a 6K Clutch drop so they were already in VTEC I guess.)

Bottom line, the S2000 is not a dragster it's a roadster. Why is the Ford Rustang so fast in the 1/4, but doesn't handle for crap?

Take into account that those cars might have had traction problems and the fact that power becomes a more significant factor as speed increases.

SiDriver is correct. Basically, with very powerful cars, you tend to be traction limited in first gear. They simply cannot get all the torque down through the two drive wheels to the road. So adding extra power/torque doesn't show up in the 0-low times. But it will show up as speed climbs, gears are shifted and it can now use all of its power.

The 911 TT is an all-wheel drive so it can get more power down thus its best showing. In my understanding, in order from worst to best:
fwd (accel throws weight off the drive wheel end reducing available traction)
front engine/rwd (transfers weight to drive wheels)
mid engine/rwd (more rear weight bias = more available traction)
rear engine/rwd (even more)
AWD

Yeah, see our lack of torque comes in handy at times

I was just looking at the 0-30 times of our S yesterday in one of the mags. Although I never compared it the others. Good observation
