Default '02 Shift Knob Report

The weather hit 85 degrees today and it was definitely time to call the insurance company and pull the S2000 out of storage. Almost without noticing it I was enjoying shifting much better. I stopped to talk to a neighbor working on a 400hp 427 in a fake Cobra and it wasn't too long before I was showing him what the S2000 was all about. After a good workout through the twisties and lots of VETCing I realized how much I really enjoyed the shift knob upgrade I did after last year's driving season. I switched from the stock '01 model year solid aluminum to the new '02 model year with the leather band. Personally I felt the solid metal, while looking really cool, worked best with driving gloves but otherwise was too slippery for my tastes. I can report I'm very satisfied with the new version.

I've never driven with anything other than the '02 shift knob, but I like it. I heard the all metal versions would get really hot in the sun if you left the top down. Is this true?

dlq04,

What did you think about the weight? I upgraded to the 02 knob and it is almost double the weight of the standard aluminium of the 01.

I like it. So far it has saved my hands in the heat. We were in the 90s this past month and just hit 100 this week, although we'll be back to the 80s - 90s this weekend. I haven't driven the S2000 in the 100s yet, but I will be doing some driving this weekend and we'll see how hot it gets.

I mentioned this in another post as well. I changed up from the '01 knob to the '02 and I couldn't be happier. No more temp problems and the look and feel is superb.

The '02 knob is probably slightly heavier I would imagine but the benefits offset it. That's the least of my concerns when it's something that small. I don't hear people worring about the extra weight added by Muz mat, Rick console cover, etc., so why the concern here?

There is no concern that it is adding weight to the car, you actually want a little MORE weight in your shift knob to help make shifts faster and more "sure" by using the momentum of the shifter with the weighted knob. I have really liked the new knob, and have considered if i would want to change to something like a voodoo knob, but can't talk myself into it since i like the stock 02 knob just fine..i am able to hold it pistol style or over the top, unlike the large round knobs that essentially need to be held in your palm.. I have noticed that it heats up pretty well in the sun or if the car sits after some hard driving, but it cools quickly and hasn't caused blisters yet

YES YES!!
I'm actually looking for MORE weight on the knob...
My current plan is to get the Ti Knob b/c of added weight... but if the stock 02 knob weigh
just as much.. then I could save that extra money.
