Default '03 S2000 vs '98 BMW M3

I own the M3 right now. Looking at purchasing an S2000 for the summer though.

What are your guys thoughts? Here is some info/specs:

Horsepower/Torque:
S2000 = 240 @ 8300 RPM / 153 @ 7500 RPM
M3 = 240 @ 6000 RPM / 236 @ 3800 RPM

Weight:
S2000 = 2810(w/o hardtop)
M3 = 3175(coupe) & 3491(convertible)

- Both have great aftermarket
- S2000 is 2 seater convertible
- M3 is 5 seater coupe or 4 seater convertible
- Mod potential for both is huge
- S2000 is 6spd, M3 is 5spd(or auto if that's your thing)

I took an S2000 for a spin yesterday and it was a blast. Handling was great but with proper mods an M3 is up there too(Full suspension/anti-sways etc). And it's not like I track my car so I wouldn't notice the minimal differences?

I think I will go ahead with the S2000 purchase but I think BMW M3's will always have a place in my heart.

I'm not sure yet. Have lots of mods into it. Asking price is around $24,900 canadian.

I'm fortunate enough to own both. My M3 is heavily modified, while the S is completely stock. If I only could have one car, I'd have to stick with the M3 - while not quite as fun in the summer, it's just far more useful than the S. It's got more interior room, more trunk space, and is more forgiving in stop and go traffic. They're both loads of fun to drive, just with different characters.

If none of the more practical concerns apply to you, then go for the S! There isn't much that can beat top-down driving.

My '95 M3 has 110,000 miles and is still going strong. It's a very reliable vehicle and the only thing I had to replace was the radiator. I think every E36 has to replace that at 100K because it's bound to go bust.

If I had to choose between the two, I'd choose the S2000. It feels more solid probably due to the fact that it's brand new and my M3 is 10 years old. It is less practical, but I could sacrifice that.

Last summer I sold my 98 M3 and bought an 04 s2k. Both are wonderful cars, but I don't regret the trade at all. I don't need a backseat at this point in my life and I love having a convertible. The s2k is much more simple compared to the BMW, but that's part of the beauty to me. Can't go wrong either way.
