Default 04 owners need help about problems

I purchased an 04 a couple months ago and want to know if you guys are having similar issues with the car.

i have a 1-2 gear grind when the car is cold. after driving for around 15-20 minutes it for the most part goes away but when the engine is cold its horrible. I know this was a problem for years previous i guess my question is, is it fixable ?

secondly lots of times when the car is in 1st the shifter will pop out of gear. ive only had this problem in 1st gear.

thanks ! i would like to hear a little more info so i can talk to the service guys a bit when my car goes in to get checked out.

Sorry to hear about your griding issues. I figured Honda would have fixed this issue by now. I have an 02 so I really can't comment on 04. I've only grinded (or is it ground) 1-2 once when the car was new and it never happened again. Hope the dealer can help you out.

Hmm...I have no problems at all with my tranny. Could it be the weather difference?

Mine pops out of 1st atleast once a day...cold or warm...

Sometimes its very hard to get into first gear too...Mercede are you having that problem too or just the it coming out of first?

I am not sure what is going on with that problem. I was planning on giving it until the first oil change to see if the problem goes away.

i have the exact same problem, but it is not a problem, it is normal, the 1-2 "grind" when cold, if it did not go away when warm it would be a problem, at this point it is only a characteristic of the gearbox and acceptable to me.

it has never once refused to go into gear, hot or cold and other than the "when cold" minor grind it is like butter....

if i had this when warm i would complain...just my opinion.,

I have the same issue with the 1-2 shift when cold. But I wouldn't call it a grind. It's just not a very smooth shift. So I go slow with moving into 2nd when the car is cold. Once it's warmed up, it's very smooth. Occasionally my 2-3 shift is a little 'notchy', as if something is getting in the way of getting into 3rd gear. Doesn't matter of the car is warm or cold and it is actually smoother when shifting at higher rpms. Mine has popped out of first once on a cold morning.

Interesting thread, I have been waiting for this.

I have noticed that the 2nd gear synchro is not happy when it is cold. The 04 cars that I have driven (about 15) do not grind, but do have the famous "double bump" or "notchy" feeling, and are not any better than the 00-03 cars. But, after about 3-4 shifts the oil warms up and it is much better.

I also noticed that at a stop light it would seem to pop out of gear as I was taking off, but after taking it out of first, then back into it at the next light, and feeling the synchro move I think that I never did get it into 1st gear the first time. I call it "False First Engagement."

I'm interested in what you guys find, please PM me.

Thanks,
woodwork

I know you guys will probably get angry at me for asking this if you already know the difference, but are you sure it is a full out grind and not just notchiness? Is it actually making the horrid screeching grind sound or just tough to put into second?
