Default 06+ Owners

I got into my S2000 today after not driving it for a few days, started it, and was immediately alerted by the maint. minder system to "check fuel cap". I hadn't gotten gas in a week or so, and the gas was 1/2. The cap seemed to be sufficiently tight, but I torqued it a few more clicks anyway. I removed the message eventually by pressing the "trip" button, and after driving the car around a bit, the message didn't reappear. Has anyone else seen this message, or any others the systems alerts you to? I had no clue the system did anything other than track your oil life percentage. On my AP1 the lose cap threw a CEL.

Happens sometimes...its a little sensitive.

Happened to me once over my 2 years of ownership. If you search, others experienced it too.

Solution: just drive like normal. The message goes away after a few startups and shutdowns. I think its like 5 cycles to clear the code.

Happens on a lot of recent model cars.

My S2000 did that to me once on a slightly drizzling, cloudy day. I was driving to school and saw that message. I pulled over and checked the cap. I unscrewed it and then retightened it, but the message didn't go away. My immediate thought was, "Maybe someone has been messing with the cap..."
When I got to school, the message went away as soon as I parked my car. I haven't gotten that message since then.

I have a MY06 and drove a block down from the gas station with the cap off and no cel or message ever came up.

It takes awhile.. the ECU only checks these things like gas cap, O2 sensor, etc periodically.. basically once per tank. Car isn't going to blow up, so it has better things to worry about.
