Ethanol is just a hype to quickly boost the economy and make gas seem cheaper (taking advantage of the cusotmer) but in reality it's going to raise prices of food and it will go away eventually. Hydrogen power is coming up...
Yikes. I knew if I read this thread through someone would mention Hydrogen. Hydrogen is nowhere near viable right now despite what the car companies say and the government hypes. Just think how long they have been hyping it. Its not much closer to being available to the public then it was 10 years ago when they first started tooting the hydrogen horn. Fuel Cell vehicles have always been simple smoke and mirrors a lot like Corn based E85

Oddly enough, around here, Shell is one of the few that still do use Ethanol blend.

Just read the post above you. For one.

Name a production cellucitic process and compare production to ADM corn.
I can't figure out if you're arguing with me or if we're in agreement
Sounds like you agree that e85 is viable, just not corn-based ethanol. Is that right?

Use of an oxygenator is REQUIRED BY LAW is certain areas, at certain times. It's not up to the individual companies.

No kidding! I was not aware of that, you're sure it is everywhere in North America?

Funny that our cars say NO MTBE!! in the manual if we potentially don't have a choice.

You are wrong for many reasons. Diesel has been working great for a long time. This is the only country that doesnt support it. Funny now how Diesel cost more then gas This county tries to screw you every chance they get. Why is it in 1992 Honda sold Civic Vx hatch that got 50 miles to the gallon and now Hybrids dont even get that mileage? So in 1992 you could by a car in the USA that got beeter mileage and lasts longer then anything sold in 2008. You like Ethanol? Forget about fuel. What about global warming? Cows sh*t and fart alot that might be funny but methane gas (farts) hurt the ozone worse then anything. Because of Ethanol we have to grow more Corn and that has a negative impact all across the world. Ethanol is the worst idea yet. Sad huh
if you truly think that this country tries to "screw you every chance they get" then you should move to another country. i would even help pay for the plane ticket. I can't stand communists like you that bag on this country. You are probably one of those people that complain and then don't even go and vote at election time. Let me know how much the plane ticket is to where ever it is that you want to go. I would gladly help you pay for it.

Partially correct.

It also has to do with the fact that there is global inflation going on right now. So you get rising prices for all goods. Concurrently, countries with many poor people (India, China, Thailand, Egypt, Vietnam, etc) have actually stopped the exporting of rice in order to make sure their citizens do not go hungry. This adds to the problem because now there is a sudden drop in the supply of rice which further raises its price at the international level.
you are incorrect about the exporting of rice from the countries that you listed. My wife is from Thailand and they are still exporting rice to america just like they have been doing for a long time.

USA, at least. Part of the federal Clean Air Act.

http://www.epa.gov/otaq/oxygenate.htm

Really? Says no MTBE in the manual? That's odd. Most oxygenated gas in the county (most notable exception being California) had MTBE in it. For several years until MTBE was outlawed (actually, it wasn't outlawed - IIRC, Congress declined to renew an immunity law protecting companies that used it) that's what my S got. What page is that on? I'd like to look it up in my own manual.
