Default 1200 mile trip-all topless

My wife and I just returned from a 7 day trip totalling 1185 miles (corrected for odo that is 1.75% optimistic) to the SC coast and back. All the driving was done in 3 days (the final 590 miles in one day) and WE HAD THE TOP DOWN THE WHOLE WAY. Not bad for a couple of old fogeys (we are 67 and 66) huh! First half was almost all Interstate at 80-90 (averaged 76). Last half was ALL 2 lane and a lot of it thru mountains of Ga. and East TN (we took back roads by choice). Averaged 25.4 mpg for trip (also corrected for odo error) and with A/C on virtually the whole time. Used ZERO oil. Car now has 4600 miles.

With side windows up and Rick's aeroscreen and A/C on we were very comfortable even at ambient temps up to 95 degrees (as long as we were moving).

Great trip! Wish I could do it again tomorrow. Wife was a good sport.

Sounds like you folks had a fun time. I'm an old fogey, too (53), compared to most on the forum. I've only taken a weekend trip in mine; however, I would like to take a longer one. I read your luggage thread and it sounds like you found a good solution. Your wife must really be a good sport.

Sounds like a fun trip. My wife and I took about a 700 mile trip last month and travelled with the top down the whole way and we were both happily suprised at how comfortable the S2000 was for a long trip.

That sounds like the one-day(11 hr) trip from Houston to Knoxville that us Houstooks drove for the S2kDays event. The car is surprisingly comfortable on long trips.

However, I don't think we went topless all the way. We weren't sure what Louisiana State laws we would violate if we travelled topless across state lines.

Great trip.

Have you both unknotted your hair yet

In 2000 miles to date, I'm trying to wear out the roof motors in record time

My wife and I did a 900 mile top down round trip in April. We encountered a brief rain shower while running about 70mph. We just rolled up the windows and barely felt a drop. A memorable trip.

Allan I have driven my Miata mant times in the rain topless and it works great IF you can keep the speed up. One time my wife and I got caught in a hard rain on the Blue Ridge parkway. I knew if I stopped I would be drenched by the time I removed the boot, raised top, etc. So we kept going but then got behind a slow moving (30 mph) car and couldn't see well enough to pass because the INSIDE of the windshield was covered with water. I was frantically trying to wipe INSIDE of WS with one hand and drive with the other. We arrived drenched and laughed about it for days. Maybe converts should have inside WS wipers!

My wife and I also just did a 1300 mile trip this past weekend. All the way with the top down. Round trip Cleveland - Columbia South Carolina. Did the return all in 1 day (630 miles). Did just like you.....windows up with A/C on. Sometimes we would turn the A/C off and put the windows down. Aren't we just wild people We are in our early 50's and we are also a grandma and grandpa........WOW No oil consumption either. We just changed our oil this week with 4300 on the odo.
